The carrier announced Thursday it’s buying 15 planes from Boom Supersonic with the option to purchase 35 more at some point. Boom’s first commercial supersonic jet, the Overture, has not been built or certified yet. It is targeting the start of passenger service in 2029 with a plane that could fly at Mach 1.7 and cut some flight times in half. That means a flight from New York to London that typically lasts seven hours would only take 3½ hours. Earlier this year, United took a stake in eVTOL start-up Archer Aviation while partnering with Mesa Airlines to order 200...

A pilot's laptop, filled with top secret security information was reported missing at Dulles Airport and the ripple effects were felt across the country. The Mesa Airlines employee couldn't find the personal laptop he brought with him while co-piloting a United Express flight from Birmingham, Alabama to Dulles International Airport. 17 airports were forced to make emergency changes to access codes at Dulles, Atlanta, Phoenix, Chicago's O'Hare and San Antonio. Various officials within the airline industry admit that with these access codes, someone who went though security could, with the touch of a few buttons, get onto a plane or...

LITTLE ROCK, Ark., Aug. 13 (UPI) -- Mesa Airlines said Tuesday that one of its pilots was fired after testing positive for alcohol last Friday just before he was to take the cockpit of a scheduled flight from Little Rock to Charlotte, N.C. The 29-year-old captain was terminated Monday night after the completion of an investigation by the Phoenix-based airline, said Brian Gillman, vice president and general counsel for the company. "We have a very strict zero tolerance policy," he said. The first officer and a flight attendant were also tested and those results were negative, Gillman said. The first...
