At least one US Marshal is dead and “numerous” other law enforcement officials have been wounded after gunfire erupted Monday in a suburban neighborhood outside of Charlotte, North Carolina, according to reports. The shooting broke out just before 2 p.m. when the US Marshals Task Force was working an investigation in the area and one of the subjects opened fire on them, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD). “Multiple” officers were hit and taken to the hospital in unknown conditions, CMPD said.

There are an estimated 14 American hostages being held in Gaza. (This number may rise or fall as Hamas continues to release videos of the hostages and Israel continues identifying bodies, some of which have been charred beyond recognition, by using DNA samples from family members.) As of this time, there are 20 Americans missing and bodies are being tested. *snip* But the Biden administration has currently ruled out sending rescue forces, instead it is using Hamas allies, Qatar and Turkey, to conduct negotiations with the Islamic terrorist organization. While Israel has refused to trade hostages for terrorists, Biden may...

A deputy U.S. marshal was arrested early Friday on suspicion of fatally shooting a man who intervened in a late night argument between the off-duty lawman and his wife in a Fairfax area alley more than four years ago. Matthew Itkowitz was taken into custody a day after being secretly indicted by a federal grand jury in Los Angeles on civil rights violations and obstruction of justice. Federal authorities took over the case after the Los Angeles District Attorney's office declined to prosecute Itkowitz in 2010, despite concluding that his account of the shooting was “patently inconsistent” with video footage...

The new rank places Mr. Kim above six military leaders who hold the rank of vice marshal, including one who was promoted on Tuesday and was viewed as a possible successor of the military chief who was relieved of his duties...

President Barack Obama has ordered a "surge" of federal air marshals to be in place by Feb.1 in what officials said was a "race against time," with other suicide bombers believed to be in the terrorist pipeline, although there is no specific imminent threat, federal officials told ABC News. President Obama has authorized the augmentation of the Federal Air Marshal Service from other Federal Law Enforcement Agencies. ALL international flights will have Air Marshals on board. Under a preliminary plan, the officials said the already existing federal air marshal force of more than 3,200 personnel would be deployed almost exclusively...

Minnesota’s next U.S. Marshal will be Minneapolis’ openly gay Assistant Police Chief Sharon Lubinski. Her confirmation by the U.S. Senate was announced Monday morning by Minnesota Democrat Amy Klobuchar, who recommended her. Lubinkski was formally nominated for the post in October by President Barack Obama and confirmed by the Senate in a flurry of pre-holiday legislative activity last week.

President Barack Obama has nominated a Minnesota policewoman to become the first openly gay person to serve as a U.S. marshal. Sharon Lubinski is an assistant chief in the Minneapolis Police Department, where she has worked for 20 years. Obama has had a rocky relationship with gay activists, who want him to end the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy on gays. He publicly pledged last weekend to do so.

The body of a U.S. marshal has been discovered in Juarez, Mexico, according to the U.S. Marshals Service -- the latest discovery in a wave of violence that has gripped towns along the U.S.-Mexican border in recent months. The body of Deputy Marshal Vincent Bustamante -- who was the subject of an arrest warrant accusing him of criminal theft of government property -- was found in Juarez on Wednesday, said Marshals Service spokesman Jeff Carter. Chihuahua state police said the body had multiple wounds to the head -- apparently consistent with an execution-style shooting, according to Edgar Roman, a reporter...

Concord – U.S. marshals posing as supporters carried out the arrests of convicted tax-evaders Ed and Elaine Brown at their fortress-like home in Plainfield, the head marshal said Friday. “They invited us in, and we escorted them out,” U.S. Marshal Stephen Monier said in the first public disclosure of details of the Thursday night arrest. A small team of marshals pulled off the ruse, arresting the Browns without incident on the couple’s front porch, Monier said. The arrests ended a months-long standoff that began when the Brown, 65, and his dentist wife, 67, walked out of their federal trial in...

CONCORD – One of four men accused of helping convicted tax evaders Edward and Elaine Brown avoid arrest allegedly had a "gun in every room" when agents arrested him in Vermont Wednesday, and another recently enlisted in the U.S. Army and had a pipe bomb and other weapons in his New York home when authorities searched it yesterday, officials said. "We've said from the very beginning ... that people who may be aiding and abetting the Browns are subject to investigation, arrest and prosecution," U.S. Marshal for New Hampshire Stephen R. Monier told reporters after the U.S. District Court hearings.

A federal judge sentenced tax protesters Ed and Elaine Brown to more than five years in prison yesterday, giving them sentences at the top of the range recommended by probation officers but below sentencing recommendations offered by the prosecutor. The couple did not attend the hearing, and Ed Brown refused to recognize the sentence or the federal court that issued it. "I've been convicted of crimes?" he asked in a phone interview yesterday. The couple have been holed up in their fortified Plainfield home for several months, saying that any attempts to arrest them will trigger a violent confrontation with...

"....Yet The Orlando Sentinel interviewed seven passengers who claimed Alpizar wasn't saying anything at all, let alone yelling about a bomb, while no passenger backed the government's story. Alpizar turns out to have been mentally unstable and altogether harmless. It's of course possible that Alpizar claimed he had a bomb once he was out in the jetway, but it's also possible that the two air marshals who shot him panicked, and concocted the story about a bomb after the fact, to make their tragic mistake of shooting a harmless mentally ill man seem like a justifiable use of lethal force....
