One US Marshal dead, police officers wounded in ‘still active’ shooting near Charlotte: reports

At least one US Marshal is dead and “numerous” other law enforcement officials have been wounded after gunfire erupted Monday in a suburban neighborhood outside of Charlotte, North Carolina, according to reports.

The shooting broke out just before 2 p.m. when the US Marshals Task Force was working an investigation in the area and one of the subjects opened fire on them, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD).

“Multiple” officers were hit and taken to the hospital in unknown conditions, CMPD said.

CMPD controlling traffic to keep clear for Ambulances to get to Hospital quickly, traffic is a mess and rush hour is not going to be pretty. IH-77/277 shut down as well as other major roads in NW Charlotte “Uptown”. Major traffic northbound IH-77 is bad enough as it is.

More than likely hoodrats dealing drugs.

Google streetview of Galway Drive looks middle-middle-class.

Zillow estimates Galway Drive home prices in the $300Ks, $400K+ area.

Not the ghetto unless Charlotte has nice ghettos where the residents pick up their trash and mow their lawns. Also, as many as 3/7 LEOs reportedly dead, according to some sources. The Bad Guy knows how to shoot.

My guess is a nasty divorce. (I never, ever watch network TV shows, particularly network police/detective TV shows, so I am no expert, and I am probably wrong.)

It’s actually in Charlotte, “The incident is at the 5000 block of Galway Drive, police said ...,” not far from Our Lady of the Assumption Church and School and the Charlotte Museum of History. My daughter texted me and said it’s “about a mile” from her house, but the map indicates it’s farther.

Pretty good research. I live here, but a good 10 miles away.

Not the greatest area, but not one where one could make any stereotypes or assumptions. Since US Marshalls were involved, this is some sort of one-off - prison escapee, nasty family situation, possibly a drug dealer.
