"....Yet The Orlando Sentinel interviewed seven passengers who claimed Alpizar wasn't saying anything at all, let alone yelling about a bomb, while no passenger backed the government's story.
Alpizar turns out to have been mentally unstable and altogether harmless. It's of course possible that Alpizar claimed he had a bomb once he was out in the jetway, but it's also possible that the two air marshals who shot him panicked, and concocted the story about a bomb after the fact, to make their tragic mistake of shooting a harmless mentally ill man seem like a justifiable use of lethal force.
Or perhaps Alpizar was suffering from a delusion that there was a bomb on the plane, and the marshals misunderstood something he said in the jetway.

I didn't hear him say he had a bomb!
I didn't hear the word "bomb" either (being about 1200 miles out of earshot) but the air marshals did and they only need a witness or two to back them up.
Bingo! Liberals never let facts get in the way of their rants.
Of course, all it takes is one person to say they DID hear it. And, for me, an Air Marshall would count.
Crazy people on airplanes are dangerous. They (and their grieving families) should not go blaming security when bad things happen.
The same kind of rant that we would have heard nif an air marshall had shot the guys who aimed to drive thei plane into the towers. They are deranged on the subject of the use of violence by government officials.
I was sitting calmly only 2200 miles away and I definitely didn't hear him say "bomb" so I can be certain he never said anything like that. Why don't they call me as a witness on behalf of left-wing lunacies, too??????
I am curious if the writer, by saying this man was "mentally unstable and altogether harmless," is suggesting that all mentally unstable people are "harmless."
Of course it's possible that Paul Campos is a complete and utter dumbass. But, we'll never know being thousands of miles away.
Campos is pretty wild with his speculation, and the only hard facts he puts faith in are rumored and reported statements from various individuals whose veracity is unknowable.
Where is the barf alert? Sure this article wasn't written by National Enquirer?
of course, alternate reporting could read like the following in case the man DID have a bomb:
(MAJOR sarcasm/on) Left wing liberals today are demanding to know why, on an arriving flight from Columbia to Miami, air marshalls didn't shoot to kill the man who didn't say, explicity or implied, that he had a bomb before detonating it. They are calling on congress for investigations as to why this man wasn't shot dead before he pressed the little red button and blew the plane sky high. They implicate Pres. Bush for inadequate air marshall training and demand improvements to this program. (MAJOR sarcasm/off)...
Does that sound about right??
What a twit - I notice he conveniently omits the video footage that shows the guy getting into a physical spat before he was cleared to board the plane. If there is anyone at fault, it is the folks that allowed him to fly in the first place.
What every one is missing is that the Air Marshals rushed after the man not knowing whether they would be blown to bits the next second. God bless these brave men.
Either kill or die, it is too late when it is found the threat was real with the bomb clicking zero to explode in the suit case. This is war on terrorism, and this is realism.
The poor guy was talking about the in-flight movie.
"tragic mistake of shooting a harmless mentally ill man "
We knew he was harmless because......?
Nutty people should do two things.
Number one is take your medicine regularly. You will always need medicine for the rest of your life, so don't stop taking it when you "feel better". Are you crazy?
Number two is stay the hell out of airports, airplanes, driver's seats, and keep your mouth shut.
Mike Rosen had Campos, a law professor at CU Boulder, on his show this morning and shot his column full of holes.
