An 18-year-old security guard was arrested at Lollapalooza over the weekend after she allegedly sent text and Facebook messages purporting to threaten a mass shooting at the annual event. Organizers required attendees to wear masks at any indoor spaces, and all guests had to show either proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test in order to enter the festival. (Some 600 people were turned away on Thursday, the festival’s first day, for not having either). These photos give a sense of the massive turnout for Lollapalooza, which was one of the biggest public gatherings in the US since the start of the pandemic.

Chicago health officials on Thursday reported 203 cases of COVID-19 connected to Lollapalooza, casting it as a number that was anticipated and not yet linked to any hospitalizations or deaths. “Nothing unexpected here,” Department of Public Health Commissioner Dr. Allison Arwady said at a news conference. “No sign of a ‘superspreader event’. But clearly with hundreds of thousands of people attending Lollapalooza we would expect to see some cases.”

The mayor was caught with a mask off while hanging out with celebrities. Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot faced criticism for continuing to hold a music festival in the midst of reinstating COVID-19 restrictions. Despite announcing plans to resume more pandemic restrictions in the city, the Democrat mayor continued to host Lollapalooza, which is one of the largest music festivals in the country. "At the same time she's threatening possible restrictions if cases rise above 200 per day, Mayor Lori Lightfoot is moving forward with plans to bring 100,000 a day to Grant Park for Lollapalooza," Chicago Tribune reporter Gregory Pratt...

(CNN)More bad news for DaBaby. The Lollapalooza musical festival canceled the rapper's performance on Sunday after his comments that were widely condemned as homophobic. At the Rolling Loud music festival in Miami on July 25, DaBaby made false and insulting comments about gay men and HIV. He also spoke crudely about women. DaBaby defended his comments later on Instagram. "I wasn't going on a rant. That's called a call to action. That's what that's called, cause I'm a live performer," he said. "I'm the best live performer." Elton John, Madonna and Dua Lipa were among the names speaking out to...

Las Vegas mass killer Stephen Paddock booked two hotel rooms overlooking the Lollapalooza music festival in Chicago this summer, according to a report Thursday. Paddock specifically requested both rooms to have a sweeping view of Grant Park — about 500 yards away — but never showed up, sources told TMZ. Among the 400,000 people who packed the venue in the Windy City was Malia Obama, 19, the former president’s older daughter.

Malia Obama won’t be able to roll her way out of this one. The 18-year-old first kid was caught smoking what looks like a joint at a concert in a video that emerged Wednesday. The video, posted by Radar Online, shows Obama puffing away on the cigarette at the Lollapalooza festival in Chicago last month. In the 9-second clip, the elder child of President Obama can be seen in the background smoking as a young girl in the foreground of the video dances and sticks her tongue out. An eyewitness claimed that Obama was smoking pot, according to the website....

We're gonna go out on a limb here and say this is DEFINITELY one of the strangest assignments the Secret Service has ever gotten! While President Barack Obama was busy hanging out with Katy Perry at the White House this weekend, his oldest daughter Malia was seeing musicians like OutKast, Skrillex, Lorde, and SO many more! That's because the 16-year-old was in Chicago with thousands of other youths at this year's installment...

One lesson of this year's Lollapalooza, held this past weekend at Grant Park here, is a confirmation rather than something new: Recorded music drives fans to live shows. Thus, it can seem like the recording industry exists to support the concert business. "The music business is upside down," said alt-country singer-songwriter Robert Earl Keen. "You don't tour to support your record. You put out a record to support a tour." "Do you see people going record shopping? No," said Perry Farrell of Jane's Addiction. "Downloading free music. Yes. Going out for live music. Yes. I love recorded music, but the...

The numbers are in on the Aug. 4-6 Lollapalooza festival in Chicago's Grant Park, and they blow last year's event out of the park. The event grossed nearly $8 million in ticket sales, with total paid attendance of more than 166,000. Last year's Lolla, its first as a one-off festival, had a total paid attendance 60,000 from a two-day event. Charles Attal, president of Charles Attal Presents, talent buyer and co-producer of Lollapalooza with Capital Sports & Entertainment, describes this year's Lollapalooza as "very smooth. There were no major incidents [and] the weather was awesome. It was remarkable." Attendance was...

Among the most noteworthy performances at Lollapalooza 2006 were the biggest hometown shows ever performed by the two most successful rappers Chicago has produced -- Common and Kanye West -- and the first appearance here by French-Latin giant Manu Chao, a heroic figure in the Latin music community. Unfortunately, the crowd of about 50,000 that watched West perform was almost exclusively white, and hardly a mirror image of his hometown or his fan base. And many Latin music fans felt excluded from Chao's show and hurt by a contract that prohibited him from performing elsewhere in the city during his...

MELENDEZ [Chicago, Illinois] -- It happens to everyone: Some cultural moment makes you "feel old." For Generation X, now in their 30s and 40s, this is one of those times. Beneath the buzz for next month's Lollapalooza music festival lurks the jarring realization that the first one was 15 years ago. "Jeez. Really? Fifteen?" asked Kristen Palmer, 32, of New York City, who braved the...

LOLLAPALOOZA, 2004 CANCELS ALL DATES Summary, by summer: The entire tour is cancelled due to weak ticket sales. And, the "news" This tour -- cancelled due to lack of ticket sales (and, apparently, lack of interest) -- was headlined by Morissey. He recently made headlines around the world with his anti-Bush remarks (publicly saying he wishes it was GW instead of Reagan who had died).

(CNSNews.com) - A music festival affiliated with MoveOn.org and other liberal groups has been forced to cancel its summertime tour because of poor ticket sales. "It is with heart-gripped despair that I inform you of Lollapalooza's disbandment for the summer of 2004," said Lollapalooza co-founder Perry Farrell in a website message to "my Fellow Artisans, Activists, and Feverish Supporters." "You can imagine the dismay I share at this moment with the artists and musicians who were looking forward to the tour," Farrell said, adding that the concert tour "could no longer see fit to continue this year." Farrell blamed...
