Recruiting ads for the Washington State Patrol have been showing up on the conservative site Breitbart, and the police agency says they’re not happy about it. A Reddit user first pointed out the ads to the state patrol Monday. The state patrol responded, saying the ads are placed using an algorithm based on people’s interests. That means if someone likes law enforcement and conservative news on Facebook, the algorithm would think they are related and start posting the ads in similar places. Apparently, Facebook approved a “Kill Mitt Romney” page that was put up and left up over 17 days. I pointed out that Twitter followed a similar example in the George Zimmerman case a few months ago. The description for the page indicates its purpose, which is a directly threat on the life of Mitt Romney stating, “This is a page advocating the murder of Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney.” What’s even more disturbing is the page had 30 likes!

I received word by phone early this morning that a person, 50 year-old Gary Owen, who had been sending threatening emails to Republican 49th Legislative District candidate Eileen Qutub had been arrested on suspicion of two counts of malicious harassment, a Class C felony. Owen, obviously not a supporter, indicates extreme anger over receiving a campaign mailer in the mail and instead of just throwing it out, as a sane person would do, sent the following email,

FULLERTON – Vandals used gold spray paint to scrawl anti-Proposition 8 messages on commercial and residential buildings in the downtown and east Fullerton over the weekend, police said. The "Prop H8TE" message was found on the Bank of America and Union Bank on north Harbor Boulevard, and on a retail store in the 500 block of north Harbor. Additional tagging was found on houses near Dorothy Lane. In addition to the spray-paint vandalism, 500 "Yes on 8" signs valued at $10 apiece were reported missing throughout the city by a Yes on 8 community organizer, MacDonald said.
