Dr. Howard Dean’s fans come out for the big Democratic summer shindig As Tom Andrews, the director of the leading national antiwar coalition, began his speech at the Maine Democrats’ big outdoor summer shindig in Falmouth, John Baldacci signaled his bodyguard/driver to move the large, dark SUV up the driveway. The vehicle soon hid in the trees, its engine quietly humming. At first, the governor seemed to be paying attention as Andrews, the former First District congressman, launched into rousing tales of how the country, under President George W. Bush, had gone "from peace and prosperity to war and recession."...

Republicans line up to finance top Democrat By Deborah McGregor Published: May 21 2004 5:00 | Last Updated: May 21 2004 5:00 In a campaign seasonwhen President George W. Bush has shattered records for campaign fundraising, John Thune has the dubious distinction of being the rarest of political creatures: a Republican Senate candidate strapped for cash. Hand-picked by the Bush White House, Mr Thune, a lanky former congressman, is running for the Senate in South Dakota, challenging Democrat Tom Daschle in one of the fiercest contests in this year's elections. The South Dakota race is much more than just another...

    County-level election returns (CNN) | 11/10/2002 | me
The state of Arizona cleaned up their voter rolls between 2000 and 2002, resulting in fewer registered voters in most counties. So this potential fraud doesn't involve registration. The following vote counts are from the election results on the CNN web site. Arizona: 1998 2002 County % Indian D margin turnout turnout ====== ======== ========== ======= ======= Apache 76.8% 6866 votes 31.3% 44.5% Coconino 28.5% 6939 votes 34.0% 41.0% Navajo 47.5% 2246 votes 29.1% 39.1% D margin = Napolitano's lead % turnout is my estimate based on the number of eligible voters, not registered voters. Salmon is currently behind by...
  • Did Little Elian Gonzalez Help to Defeat Steve Largent?

One of the biggest surprises of the election to me was the narrow defeat of former Congressman Steve Largent for the OK governorship. One contributor to this forum said that he voted for the independent candidate, who one might argue denied victory to Largent, because Largent spoke in platitudes and had nothing really to say on state issues. The incoming Democrat governor is Brad Henry. Normally, OK does have a Democrat governor, with outgoing Governor Frank Keating having been an exception to the rule for the past eight years. The Republican lieutenant governor was reelected, as I understand. Now could...

Steve Largent (R) favored over the field (Brad Henry (D) and Gary Richardson (I)), 15 to 14 (51.7% chance; downgraded Nov. 3 from 52.6% chance; Largent downgraded from 55.6% chance Nov. 2; downgraded from 57.1% Oct. 29) REPUBLICAN SEAT AT POSSIBLE RISK. I've been out volunteering, and walking my neighborhood, putting up signs, and putting pamplets on peoples cars at Wal-Mart. In the rain no less, LOL!!

Oklahoman Editorial: For Steve Largent 2002-10-27 STEVE Largent is our choice to be Oklahoma's next governor. Of the three gubernatorial candidates on the Nov. 5 ballot, we think Largent is the one most capable of helping state government through its budget difficulties in the short term and providing leadership that will help Oklahoma prosper in the long term. Additionally, his experience in Congress is invaluable, for he understands the often complicated relationship between Washington and state capitals. On key issues, education and taxes, in particular, we like Largent's ideas and willingness to question the status quo yet work in collaborative...
  • Question about Voter Registration.

I have many friends who I know would vote Republican if they would only get out and vote. Problem is, whenever I ask them why they won't vote, most of the time they come up with an excuse about how they don't know where they are registered, or say that they're vote doesn't count. I know its different for each state, but is there a place where you can find out which polling station you are supposed to vote at?

Oklahoma Congressman turned Republican gubernatorial nominee Steve Largent blurted out an obscenity during a taped television interview that aired Sunday night, referring to an interviewer's questions as "bull---t." The incident occurred when KOKH-TV anchorman Andrew Speno questioned the one-time football star about his whereabouts on Sept. 11, 2001. Largent was hunting in Idaho at the time and didn't learn of the attacks until two days afterwards. However, while he was in the woods, his staff released a statement with Largent's reaction even though they hadn't been in touch with him. Speno also pressed the former congressman on where he was...
