A private jet that vanished in 1971 with five passengers onboard was miraculously found by an expert during a recent recovery mission. On January 27, 1971, a jet took off on a snowy and cold night from the Burlington International Airport to Providence, Rhode Island. The plane was carrying two crew members and three employees from Cousin's Properties, an Atlanta-based development company. The flight vanished and George Nikita, Donald Myers, Frank Wilder, Richard Kirby Windsor, and Robert Ransom Williams III were never found, despite multiple searches conducted over the last five decades.

Subtitle: The Matter of the Mississippi River. A not inconsequential percentage of Article V opponents, like those in the John Birch Society, identify as Anti-Federalists. They question the 1780s need for the vigorous government of our Constitution. Those familiar with the era know of Shays’ Rebellion. According to modern Anti-Federalists, Shays’ was the pretext for nationalists like George Washington and James Madison to justify the 1787 Philadelphia Convention. There were other problems facing the infant United States to which the Articles of Confederation proved inadequate. For instance, most of the great European and New World ports were closed to American...

SHELBURNE, Vt. — Over the weekend, a Tesla Model X caught fire on the frozen surface of Lake Champlain in Vermont. The fire happened around 8 p.m. on Sunday, and the fire almost completely consumed the vehicle. A few news reports had mentioned the burned-up Tesla. So, we decided to walk out onto the lake and have a look: WMUR-TV Avery Thompson/Popular Mechanics The Shelburne Police Department tells Popular Mechanics that the owner of the vehicle took their Tesla onto the ice to go fishing, and that at some point during the expedition the car hit a rock. The car...

SEOUL, May 9 (Yonhap) -- A U.S. naval ship collided with a South Korean fishing vessel in the East Sea on Tuesday during its training mission, defense authorities here said. "There was an accident involving the U.S. cruiser USS Lake Champlain and the South Korean fishing ship 502 Namyang in the waters south of Ulleung Island at around noon today," a military official said. But there was no report of any casualties from the accident involving the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser, he added. As part of the Carl Vinson Strike Group, the cruiser is participating in joint drills with South Korea's...

Dubbed “North America’s Loch Ness Monster,” the purported leviathan of Lake Champlain, “Champ,” has just resurfaced. On Feb. 22, 2006, Good Morning America aired exclusive video footage of “something” just below the surface of the water, possibly the lake’s fabled creature. A pair of Vermont men, Dick Affolter and his 34-year-old stepson, Pete Bodette, had made the digital recordings the previous summer while salmon fishing. ABC consulted two retired FBI forensic image analysts, who concluded that the video appeared authentic, although they could not say what it depicted. The incident added to a long list of Champ sightings, which...

PLATTSBURGH -- Carl Roberts was enjoying a pleasant evening with friends Thursday while fishing at Wilcox Dock. They had been casting their lines since 6 p.m. and had caught quite a few perch, but the fish unexpectedly stopped biting around 8 p.m. The wind was calm, the sun was still shining above the western horizon, and Lake Champlain was as tranquil as could be. RAPID MOVEMENT But then, a movement out on the lake caught the angler's attention. Something in the water was moving rapidly from left to right about 100 yards beyond the dock. "It had to be 50...

BURLINGTON, Vt.- A cell-phone video of a mysterious object in Lake Champlain has some wondering if it's "Champ," a legendary Loch Ness-style monster said to roam the lake's depths. The video, taken by Eric Olsen, of Burlington, shows an object moving through the water in a small cove, apparently swimming and raising its head above the surface several times.

Diver Dennis O'Neil of Plattsburgh, N.Y., poses with a piece of a cannon muzzle which he discovered during a dive Friday, June 30, 2006, in Peru, N.Y. Divers have spent the last seven years combing the bottom of Lake Champlain in search of 'battlefield scatter' from the crucial 1776 Battle of Valcour near Peru. O'Neil has made about 100 dives during the project. PERU, N.Y. - Gen. Benedict Arnold led a "wretched, motley" crew of sailors on Lake Champlain against a far superior British fleet near here on Oct. 11, 1776. The rebels lost. But their dogged fight delayed...

Residents near Lake Champlain in New York say they have their own Loch Ness monster. They call it Champ, and it's a local legend. It is the inspiration for parade floats, T-shirts, key chains, minor-league baseball team mascots, and wild stories. ABC News obtained exclusive video of something just under the surface of the lake that some say may be Champ. The video was taken by two fishermen with their digital camera last summer. Before their supposed sighting, they were Champ skeptics. "It was as big around as my thigh," said fisherman Peter Bodette. "I'm 100 percent sure of what...

School Changing Nickname, Mascot After Islamic Protest POSTED: 9:34 am EDT June 14, 2005 HINESBURG, Vt. -- The Crusaders of Champlain Valley Union High are now history. The School Board in the Vermont community is selecting a new nickname and mascot for the school. The Islamic world has criticized the Crusades. And closer to home, some people object to a knight bearing a crucifix as the symbol for a public school. The image makeover will be implemented in time for the next school year. Redhawks, Bobcats and Red Wolves are all in the running for Union High's new nickname.

MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - A federal judge on Wednesday dismissed a lawsuit that sought to block random searches of passengers and vehicles using ferries that cross Lake Champlain. U.S. District Court Judge J. Garvan Murtha said the searches of people seeking to board the Lake Champlain Transportation Co. ferries were not intrusive and were reasonable given terrorism concerns. The lake forms part of the New York-Vermont border and extends into Canada. The searches are required under the National Maritime Transportation Security Act, which took effect July 1. The Coast Guard approved the company's screening protocol, which includes vehicle searches. In...

BURLINGTON, Vt. -- On a chilly morning in June, a team of scientists using underwater microphones picked up a series of strangely high-pitched ticking and chirping noises, similar to what a dolphin or Beluga whale would make. Trouble is, they were miles from the ocean, on Lake Champlain.
