WASHINGTON, (AP) -- The owners of a dry cleaner who were sued for $54 million over a missing pair of pants have closed and sold the shop involved in the dispute, their attorney said Wednesday. The South Korean immigrants are citing a loss of revenue and the emotional strain of defending the lawsuit. They will focus their energy on another dry-cleaning shop they still own, said their attorney, Chris Manning. "This is a truly tragic example of how devastating frivolous litigation can be to the American people and to small businesses," Manning said in a statement. Soo Chung and her...

Fearing a backlash in the wake of the Virginia Tech shootings, Korean students at the University of Wisconsin-Madison are retreating from their normal campus lives. Some Korean freshmen in student housing here have, for example, taken down their name tags from their dormitory doors out of fear of racially charged retaliation, according to Chai Sun Chang, president of UW-Madison's Korean-American Student Association. While Chang feels such fears are unfounded, he says that the worries of his peers are getting to him. Some Inland-region Korean- Americans said Thursday that missile tests by North Korea this week are an attempt to force world attention on the starving nation. But it's a dangerous game that is scaring relatives in South Korea and could backfire, they said. "They're doing something crazy," said Roger Park, 54, of Colton. Park was born in Seoul, South Korea, and came to the United States 25 years ago. A brother and sister remain there. "So many countries don't want them to test fire," Park said by phone. "They're still going to do it. That's a concern, especially for South Koreans....

I remember there was a website named www.kimsoft.com that claims to be an "independent directory for resources on Korean and Korean American history, culture, economy, politics and military." Supposedly the editor is an American of Korean descent, but I have seen lots of hardcore anti-American articles from a supposedly American-based news source and which sing praise to North Korea such that even the famously biased CNN claims that it is a biased news source towards the North Korean party line. The thing that strikes me most is that it offered nothing in sympathy to the victims of 9/11 soon after...

WASHINGTON – A South Korean who met with Sen. A Korean Lesson By Marcin Szczepanski, Nowy Dzeinnik/Polish Daliy News, April 6, 2003. In Korean, “nodutdol” means “springboard”; a springboard that shoots toward a new life of wealth and freedom—including the freedom of speech. Nodutdol is also the name of an organization which in recent weeks has flared the tempers of many Korean immigrants. And in the foreground of the entire affair stood Korea Times New York—one of the most distinguished Korean newspapers in New York City. The storm started with a front page article in the Korea Times: “The Anti-American Meeting at the Korean-American Association.” The article was re-printed...
