A Colorado man who founded and directed an orphanage in Haiti has been sentenced to 210 years in prison for sexually abusing children there. Michael Karl Geilenfeld, 73, founded the St. Joseph’s Home for Boys in 1985, which housed orphaned, impoverished, and vulnerable children in Haiti. In the over two decades that Geilenfeld operated the orphanage, the Department of Justice said that he "repeatedly traveled from the United States to Haiti, where he sexually abused the boys entrusted to his care." The children also suffered physical and emotional abuse at the hands of Geilenfeld. A federal jury convicted Geilenfeld in...

A Democratic Georgia state legislator tweeted that she did not know that state laws determine minimum wage requirements across the country. "How does that even work?!" Georgia state Rep. Dar'shun (Klingon name?) Kendrick tweeted Thursday night after President Donald Trump said he prefers to leave minimum wage laws to individual states. Twenty-nine states, as well as four territories and Washington, D.C., have already implemented minimum wages higher than the federally-mandated $7.25 per hour. Georgia is one of 19 states that have not yet raised their hourly minimum pay. After Democratic nominee Joe Biden said he'd raise the federal minimum wage...

A group of Florida Democrats have been urging the White House to abandon their own Senate candidate, Rep. Kendrick Meek, in all but name. And they appear to have succeeded. The Wall Street Journal reports that President Obama is seriously considering offering only half-hearted support to his party’s nominee, the only serious black candidate for Senate in the United States this year, so as to help Republican-turned-Independent candidate Gov. Charlie Crist win the seat.

The Kirk Cameron starred, Christian-centered, liberally mocked film 'Fireproof' has far exceeded expectations at the Box Office. With a budget of about $500,000, and little advertisement to speak of, the little-movie-with-a-message-that-could has rounded up an impressive $28.4 Million after 7 weeks in theatres, and moved up to 13th place overall. Between weekends 6 and 7 it had the smallest drop (8.7%) of all top-20 movies, meaning the feel good movie could end up with $32-35 Million by the time it completes it's run. Comparatively, after 4 weeks Anti-Bush film 'W' continues to drop like a rock and has found just...

State Rep. Will Kendrick is switching to the Republican Party, diminishing the Democrats' biggest pickup of seats in the state House in two decades. Kendrick, of Carrabelle, along the Gulf Coast southwest of Tallahassee, has always been conservative and frequently voted with Republicans. For generations, the Panhandle was dominated by Democrats, even though many were staunchly conservative and voted more often with the GOP. Kendrick said Monday he simply had philosophical differences with the Democratic Party and noted that Gov.-Elect Charlie Crist, a Republican, carried most of his district in the November elections. Kendrick also said he could be more...
