I've been incessantly busy, and for that, I apologize - time has not been as readily available to me over the past few months, but I'll do my best to stick my head in here a bit more often as we move forward. This listing came across my desk this weekend -- it is a detailed list of black Republican candidates for state and national offices this year. They are definitely worth taking a look at, and, provided they meet with your personal approval (after seriously considering their credentials and viewpoints, of course), are worthy of your support. Thanks for...

Friday August 04, 2006 By TIM MARTIN Associated Press Writer LANSING, Mich. (AP) Republican U.S. Senate hopefuls Michael Bouchard and Keith Butler plan to crisscross Michigan over the next few days in anticipation of Tuesday's primary election showdown. Bouchard, Oakland County's sheriff and a former state lawmaker, took walking tours Friday with his family in Bloomfield Hills, Mason and Kalamazoo. Meanwhile, Butler, a Troy minister and former Detroit city councilman, campaigned with former Oklahoma congressman and college football star J.C. Watts. They stopped in Warren, Troy, Livonia, Lansing and Grand Rapids. Both candidates plan plenty of similar stops across the...

GOP Pins Hopes on Black Republicans By KRISTEN WYATT, Associated Press Writer 8 minutes ago Hope springs eternal when black Republicans seek higher office, yet often the first question that hits them is what are they doing in the GOP. This election year, a man named Steele in Maryland and a former football star named Swann in Pennsylvania are among a small but determined number of black candidates trying to win one for the Republicans despite the Democratic Party's near lock on the black vote. Republican Lt. Gov. Michael Steele, a former seminarian with a law degree from Georgetown University,...

Black Republican Candidates for the United States Senate By Paul M. Weyrich Mar 17, 2006 Republican National Chairman Kenneth B. Mehlman has gone out of his way to tell the Black community that it should not be taken for granted by Democrats but should give Republicans a second look. He cites various Republican initiatives, such as school choice, the No Child Left Behind measure and President George W. Bush’s ownership society, as reasons for Black reconsideration. I am convinced that Mehlman is sincere in not only wanting to see Blacks vote for Republicans but to see Black Republican candidates elected...

March 09, 2006 Black Like GOPBy Deroy Murdock,Contributing Editor Will the Dems lose a reliable constituency this year? This year, Democrats may lose their iron grip on the black vote. About 90 percent of black Americans vote Democrat, rain or shine. But a growing sense that Democrats take them for granted — plus several attractive, high-level black Republican candidates who will fight for these votes — could make November 2006 and 2008 fascinating. For starters, President Bush's black support grew from 9 percent in 2000 to 11 percent in 2004. That is no landslide, but Bush's black vote improved 22...

Sh... Sh... Keep this a secret and don't dare tell the mainstream media, but Lynn Swann, Michael Steele, Kenneth Blackwell and Keith Butler are four charismatic, conservative, Republican Senatorial and Gubenatorial candidates who happen to be black and are attempting to change the nation's politics. They could possibly lead a bevy of black voters out of the Democratic stronghold and render the Dems totally powerless in national elections. Just thinking of this prospect must give Democrats the shivers, since they know so many blacks are socially conservative and unhappy with what the Democrats have had to offer black Americans. It...

They're all popular, conservative, Republican and black. And just thinking of their candidacies must give Democrats the shivers, cause them to get little if any sleep at night and make them angry that these blacks had the nerve to leave the plantation without permission. Of course, I'm talking about the candidacy of former Detroit City Councilman Keith Butler who is in the running for the U.S. Senate seat from the state of Michigan. Current Ohio Secretary of State and former Mayor of Cincinatti Kenneth Blackwell is running for the Gubenatorial seat in Ohio. Michael Steele is currently Mariyland's Lieutenant Governor...

Black Republicans are making a run for a number of big elections this year. In Maryland, Michael Steele wants retiring Democrat Paul Sarbanes' Senate seat. Keith Butler is also running for Senate, from Michigan. Lynn Swann, the former Pittsburgh Steelers star, wants to be governor of the Keystone State. Randy Daniels would like to be governor of New York. And gunning for governor in a key presidential electoral state there is the great black hope for the Republican Party, Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell. The "great black hope" is probably the last phrase Blackwell would use to describe himself...

Stabenow leads Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard 49% to 33%. Bouchard recently re-entered the race after withdrawing for health reasons. Keith Butler trails Stabenow by 19 percentage points, 52% to 33%. Before Bouchard's re-entry, Butler was considered the frontrunner on the GOP side of the aisle. Jerry Zandstra trails Stabenow by 20 points, 51% to 31%.

In the post-Civil War Era, inspired by Abraham Lincoln and Union victory, those Blacks who could overcome State requirements aimed at preventing their voting usually voted Republican. President Dwight D. Eisenhower overwhelmingly was supported by Blacks when he ran for re-election in 1956. Then came Senator John F. Kennedy (D-MA) in the 1960 Presidential race. Blacks switched and voted for JFK. They helped him win that squeaker election against Vice President Richard M. Nixon. What happened? At the time I just had begun my broadcasting career and was working at WLIP in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Working along side me on weekends...

A black conservative pastor believes the least free place in America today is the church and the pulpit. He says that is one reason why he wants to be Michigan's next U.S. senator. Keith Butler pastors the 21,000-member Word of Faith International Christian Center in Southfield, Mich. The former Detroit City Council member says incumbent Democratic Senator Debbie Stabenow opposes legislation that would reverse a 1954 law prohibiting places of worship from engaging in the political process. Butler says churches should have the same rights as any union hall or non-profit group. "I certainly support ... giving churches their legal...

The Livingston County Teenage Republicans are having a Meet the Candidate night this Thursday, July 28 featuring US Senate Candidate Keith Butler. Keith Butler is running against Debbie Stabenow. He's a solid conservative and is the only Republican to win in the last 30 years in the City of Detroit. He's an excellent speaker and barring any surprises such as Mike Rogers or Candice Miller running, will have my vote in the 2006. I encourage everyone Mid Michigan or SE Michigan to come to this event and hear him speak. This is free to all conservatives and republicans. Meet the...

A growing chorus of Republicans, including former vice-presidential nominee Jack Kemp and Rep. J.C. Watts, is coalescing around Keith Butler (R), a pastor and former Detroit city councilman hoping to beat Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) next year. And yesterday, Republicans on Capitol Hill, many of whom have been waiting for Domino’s Pizza CEO David Brandon to get into the race, suggested that they are leaning toward Butler.

Detroit pastor gaining local GOP support for Senate run Saturday, June 25, 2005 By Steven Harmon The Grand Rapids Press GRAND RAPIDS -- Gerry Hildenbrand believes the Rev. Keith Butler has unique qualifications to beat U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow. Butler is a black Republican who can draw votes from Detroit that no other Republican politician can in a statewide race, said Hildenbrand, the Allegan County Republican Party chairman. "He can do better on the East side than other Republicans, and that's where we have to pick up the votes," Hildenbrand said. Hildenbrand and Ottawa County's GOP chairman, Paul Leidig, joined...

(AP) — Keith Butler got a major endorsement in his run for the Republican U.S. Senate nomination when Attorney General Mike Cox announced Thursday that he backed the Southfield minister.
