Moscow, April 15 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Iran is building a fence on its border with Pakistan to keep out terrorists, Defence Minister Ahmad Vahidi has said. The barrier is being built on "impenetrable mountainous terrain" in southeastern Iran to "prevent villains from crossing into the Islamic Republic", IRNA news agency quoted him as saying Thursday. Members of the Iranian insurgent group Jundullah, which is based in Pakistan's Balochistan province, have reportedly been crossing into Iran's Sistan-Baluchestan province to carry out terrorist attacks. Jundullah leader Abdolmalek Rigi was arrested by Iranian authorities in February 2010 and executed in June.

TEHRAN (AFP) — Iran on Saturday hanged three men in public accused of involvement in the bombing of a Shiite mosque that killed 25 people, an official said, branding them "terrorists" and "enemies of God." The early morning executions took place near the mosque in southeastern Iran devastated by the bombing, official IRNA news agency quoted Hojatoeslam Ebrahim Hamidi, justice chief of Sistan-Baluchestan province, as saying. At least 125 people were also wounded in the powerful blast, which rocked the Amir al-Momenin mosque in the Sistan-Baluchestan provincial capital Zahedan during evening prayers on Thursday. "The terrorists Haji Noti Zehi, Gholam...

Unlike Pakistan’s southwestern province of Balochistan, which has been receiving extensive media coverage as a result of its uprising against the central government in recent years, Iran’s vast but sparsely populated southeastern province of Sistan-Balochistan has long been out of media glare. This, however, seems to be changing now with an escalating insurgency led by an obscure Baloch militant organization called Jundollah (Soldiers of God). Given the absence of accurate demographic data on Iran’s ethnic and religious minorities, it is hard to know the precise number of Iranian Balochis. According to an estimate, there are some 10-15 million Balochis residing...

KARACHI, Pakistan — After leaving university, Atta-ur Rehman traded his jeans and T-shirts for a beard and cap and his civil-service aspirations for a martyr's spot in heaven. (excerpted) Rehman's circle call themselves Jundullah (God's Army) and have close ties to al Qaeda. Most are young, educated men, whom Rehman is said to have sent to training camps in Pakistan's remote tribal areas. Rehman doesn't fit the mold of the typical al Qaeda leader. (excerpted)

KARACHI, Pakistan - It started with a robbery, but the gang that burst into a branch of Al-Habib Bank in this teeming port city had no interest in striking it rich, and the university graduate driving the getaway car was just getting started on a master plan for terror. The heist, carried out in daylight and with AK-47 assault rifles, is emblematic of a new brand of Islamic militant — more educated but less established and largely cut off from traditional sources of terror funding, Pakistani police and intelligence officials told The Associated Press. Atta-ur Rehman and his Jundullah gang...
