Delaware’s Democratic Governor John Carney signed legislation on Wednesday to further expand abortions in the state, including allowing midwives to kill babies in the womb. The legislation “authorizes” a physician assistant or midwife to commit an abortion before “viability.” Abortion has been considered a “right” in the state since 2017. The legislation expands on another pro-abortion bill signed by Carney in April. The Associated Press reported: In April, Carney signed a bill allowing physician assistants and advanced practice registered nurses to prescribe abortion-inducing medications including mifepristone and misoprostol. Lawmakers followed that up with a bill signed by Carney this week...
  • Carney: Joe Biden Identifies as Fiscally Responsible

The latest push by Democrats and the establishment media to repair President Joe Biden’s standing with the American public on economic issues improbably attempts to crown the president with the laurel of fiscal responsibility. In remarks at the White House Wednesday, Biden plans to claim credit for deficit reduction and pat himself on the back because the federal government will likely shrink the national debt this quarter. That will be the first quarter in six years the government has paid down some debt. This is part of the scramble to create some positive economic news ahead of the midterm elections.

The price of oil crashed on Wednesday after the UAE reportedly said it would encourage fellow OPEC members to increase oil production levels. “We favor production increases and will be encouraging OPEC to consider higher production levels,” said Yousef al-Otaiba, the UAE’s ambassador to Washington. This statement was first reported by the Financial Times.

U.S. stock markets opened sharply lower Friday morning as investors grappled with the fears of a new Covid variant found in South Africa but now spreading to Asia and Europe. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by as much as 890 points, or around 2.5 percent, after the opening bell. The S&P 500 tumbled 1.9 percent and the Nasdaq Composite slipped by 1.4 percent. The small-cap Russell 2000 sank 3.25 percent.
  • Oil Prices Jump Higher as Market Rejects Biden Administration’s Strategic Reserve Ploy

Oil prices rose above $81 a barrel on Tuesday morning after the Biden administration announced the U.S. and other nations would release tens of millions of barrels of oil from reserves in a ploy to lower prices. The price of Brent, the global benchmark, rose by more than two percent following the announcement that the U.S. would be releasing 50 million barrels from the Strategic Petroleum Reserves. China, India, South Korea, Japan, and Britain are also planning to release reserves, the White House said.

WILMINGTON – One day after federal health officials announced that it was safe for vaccinated Americans to not wear masks or socially distance in most public spaces, Gov. John Carney followed suit by ordering the same guidance in Delaware effective May 21. Carney had been noncommittal on lifting the mask mandate when asked early Friday, but made the change to the order later in the day. “It’s clear that the COVID-19 vaccines are extremely safe and protective against infection and serious illness,” said Gov. Carney in a statement to the media. “Delawareans who are fully vaccinated have significant protection against...

The Delaware man who has been charged for plotting to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer was pardoned by Gov. John Carney last year. Carney approved a pardon for Barry Croft, of Bear, Delaware, in April 2019, after a recommendation by the state’s Board of Pardons. Croft’s record includes assault, theft, and possession of a firearm during commission of a felony. The charges in question against Croft were from 1994-1997 and the pardon was unopposed by the Delaware Department of Justice.

Pennsylvanians traveling to Delaware are no longer being asked to voluntarily quarantine for 14 days upon returning to the Keystone State. Multiple media outlets, including abc27, noted that the Pa. Department of Health has removed Delaware from its travel quarantine list after just a four-day stay on it. It was not immediately clear what prompted the quick turnaround, but WHYY says Delaware Gov. John Carney thanked his counterparts in both Pa. and New Jersey after the Garden State made a similar decision to the one Gov. Tom Wolf apparently made. Officials in Pennsylvania are recommending, and not actually enforcing, the...
  • Carney: Bernie Sanders’ Plan Will Make the College Debt Problem Worse

Senator Bernie Sanders released a bill Monday that would cancel all outstanding student debt. But it does little to stop the student debt problem from arising once again–and may even make it worse. The Sanders bill would cancel all of the roughly $1.5 trillion in student debt for 44 million Americans, including debt owed by wealthy individuals, debt owed to private lenders, and debt owed to the federal government’s loan programs. It would also attempt to make college education at state schools free to students, paid for by a combination of state and federal spending. By Senator Sanders’ estimate, the...

Democratic Gov. John Carney has signed legislation adding Delaware to a group of states pledging to give their Electoral College presidential votes to the winner of the national popular vote, regardless of the voters' will in those states. Carney's approval Thursday makes Delaware the 13th Democratic-leaning state to join the popular-vote compact...

Delaware Gov. John Carney (D) signed a bill that would give the state's presidential electoral votes to the winner of the national popular vote, according to the Associated Press. In signing the bill, Delaware became the 13th state to join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact. States that belong to the compact would award their electoral votes to whomever wins the popular vote nationally, regardless of the results in the Electoral College. With the addition of Delaware, states that belong to the compact hold 184 electoral votes, still well short of the 270 needed to ascend to the White House.

July 23 (UPI) -- Delaware Gov. John Carney signed a law Monday prohibiting medical and mental health professionals in the state from practicing or referring conversion therapy for minors. The law made Delaware the 14th state, along with Washington, D.C., to ban conversion therapy, a practice which attempts to change the sexual orientation or gender identity of LGBT people. "All Delawareans, including Delaware children, deserve to be respected for who they are, and I was proud to sign Senate Bill 65 into law today," Carney wrote on Twitter. "Discredited practices like conversion therapy have no place in Delaware." Under the...
  • FACT CHECK: New Yorkers Will Get Tax Cuts Even Without the State and Local Tax Deduction

The Republican tax overhaul will not be the punishment expected by many residents of high-tax, Democrat-voting areas. Many of those who have the most to lose from the elimination of state and local tax deductions will actually come out ahead under either the House or Senate versions of the bills. Many residents of places like New York City, which couple high taxes with high costs, fear the provisions of both bills that would eliminate or reduce the deductions they receive for the income and property taxes they pay locally. The Senate bill would preserve a property tax deduction up to...

Has this been a tough year for America? Think about that for a minute. I'll bet your answer is framed in terms of the war, the stock market, and politics. We'll all remember 2003 for the war in Iraq, and the tough economic times. But those memories are of news reports, debates with friends, and other things that blended seamlessly with our peacetime lives. For most Americans, 2003 hasn't been a year of personal sacrifice, or...
