Delaware Gov. John Carney (D) signed a bill that would give the state's presidential electoral votes to the winner of the national popular vote, according to the Associated Press.

In signing the bill, Delaware became the 13th state to join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact. States that belong to the compact would award their electoral votes to whomever wins the popular vote nationally, regardless of the results in the Electoral College.

With the addition of Delaware, states that belong to the compact hold 184 electoral votes, still well short of the 270 needed to ascend to the White House.

184 is the guaranteed minimum a Democrat will get in 2020. Not moving to 200 any time soon

I would say the lawsuit against this should be filed today.

They are de facto subverting the constitution.

Ripe for corruption and vote fraud of all kinds, which we have evidence of all across the country.

It is amazing at all of these state legislatures and governors are willing to give control of the votes of their citizens to the populations of other states. But then these are Democrapt controlled states and don’t care what their serfs may want. It would be nice to see how quickly they move to cancel it if the popular vote would go to President Trump in 2020.

This is incredible. The guy is elected to represent his voters, then he gives their electoral votes to California and New York? Our governor in Colorado just did the same thing. Liberalism is a mental disorder.

How is this bill constitutional? It disenfranchises the votes of Delaware’s citizens. If the voters of Delaware vote for the Republican for President, but the national popular vote is for the Democrat, Delaware’s electoral votes go for the democrat. If this is the case why vote in the state of Delaware for President?

Makes their elections cheap. No need to set up polls. Just kick back, pop a cold one, and watch the show.

The odd thing is this could potentially help the republicans as well. You could have a situation a Democrat could have won with the EC votes, but because of the popular vote, they flip to help the GOP. It’s a set up for another way to lose.

It really just doesn’t make sense to me unless you’re so short sighted you’re pissed about 2016 and are only focused on 2020.

Why would a state do this in the first place? does anyone really believe that california should have control over Delaware Votes? What do Voters think about being subservient to California now?

The the democratic governors of the democrat-dominated states that have signed on the this would call their legislatures into emergency sessions to change the rules. You know this is what they’d do.

“I believe this would be declared unconstitutional!!!”

I don’t believe so. The constitution does not spell out HOW a state may allocate their electoral votes, only that they do so. It is therefor left up to the individual states to decide that proceedure for themselves.

The so called “compact” may have issues though.

I am always thinking the same thing when I read articles about this so-called "law" passing in liberal states.

When is someone going to file a lawsuit challenging this apparent subversion of the US Constitution?

Sorry, but no. Article 2, Section 1 states that "Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress".

In other words, if the Governor of Delaware signed a bill duly passed by the Legislature of Delaware, it's good. If they're stupid enough to ignore the results of their Presidential election in favor of being on the bandwagon, they are free to do it.

Remembering who their Senior Senator was until 2009, it doesn't seem a big stretch calling the people in charge a bunch of Northbound ends of a Southbound Clydesdale.

If this were to happen in my state I would immediately sue the government for disenfranchising me.

It does not take effect until enough states enact it to guarantee the Rat wins. We will never overcome the Dim fraud. If the 2018 election did not wake up the stupid party, nothing will. They are still wondering how they lost.

So long as this is all Democrat states it will make no difference unless Trump gets control of the voting process to eliminate the organized fraud which turned a bunch of elections and produced voting majorities for Democrats in many districts\. If the voting gets back to something resembling fair and honest and a Trump popular vote is registered in 2020 this tactic could easily produce a ZERO electoral vote for the Democrat.
