So who died and made John Morton King? Under the presidency of Barry Hussein Soetoro the United States of America has officially become a lawless Nation. When John Morton assistant secretary of homeland security for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement can openly and without any fear of reprisal or retribution pick and chose laws that he doesn’t like and then chose to disregard a validly implemented law, that act is the essence of lawlessness. (see article) So do we now live in a country where anyone in the United States can chose to disregard a law with which they disagree,...

Last Thursday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) promised to allow a vote on Sen. Jeff Sessions' (R-AL) amendment to the Omnibus Appropriations bill. However, today, reports surfaced that Sen. Reid may break his promise and block a vote on Sessions' amendment to fully reauthorize E-Verify for the next five years. There is no good reason why the Senate should not reauthorize this non-controversial program. E-Verify will help to deter illegal aliens from taking American jobs. A vote for cloture before a vote is allowed on the Sessions Amendment is irresponsible and would do a great disservice to millions of...

Business owners feel the pinch as families drop from community life WAUKEGAN, ILL. — She is a homeowner, a taxpayer, a friendly neighbor and a U.S. citizen. Yet because she is married to an illegal immigrant, these days she feels like a fugitive. Whenever her Mexican husband ventures out of the house, "it makes me sick to my stomach," said the woman, who insisted on being identified only by a first name and last initial, Miriam M. "I'm like, 'Oh, my God, he took too long,' " she said. "I'll start calling. I go into panic." Over the last year,...

BISBEE — Richard Hodges was driving his Jeep along International Road after 8 p.m. one night this past summer when he noticed an opening in the barbed wire fence along one side of his property. He owns 372 acres near Bisbee Junction. The edge of his land is located on the border with Mexico. Fearing his cows might escape and cross the border, he stopped to close the hole in the fence. He parked his vehicle so the headlights were shining on the fence. As he was mending the section of barbed wire, he was struck in the chest by...

Re: The Company You Keep Responses to Linda Chavez. An NRO Symposium After two shorter syndicated columns, Linda Chavez wrote a lengthy piece on conservatives, Hispanics, and immigration for National Review Online, published Monday. Today those named in Chavez’s “The Company You Keep” and other immigration-policy experts respond to Chavez. Ward Connerly I have known Linda for years. She is a good friend. Good friends are not immune from the tendency to misspeak occasionally, however. In her initial column that has caused so much anger, Linda was “intemperate,” to say the least. Although there is a certain degree of “anti-Mexican”...

On May 25, I wrote a column entitled “Latino Fear and Loathing” that has provoked considerable anger and recriminations among my fellow conservatives. In the column I asserted that, “Some people just don’t like Mexicans — or anyone else from south of the border,” and described some of the fears shaping these sentiments: “They think Latinos are freeloaders and welfare cheats who are too lazy to learn English. They think Latinos have too many babies, and that Latino kids will dumb down our schools. They think Latinos are dirty, diseased, indolent, and more prone to criminal behavior. They think Latinos...
