This breaks the previous record of 123 degrees, which was most recently tied in June 2021. The temperature is one...

Federal budget analysts said Wednesday that debt held by the U.S. public is on track to hit a record high in the coming years because the federal budget deficits are projected to climb over the next decade. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) projected the debt held by the public will rise significantly over the next decade, climbing from 99 percent of GDP in 2024 to 116 percent in 2034. The jump would mark a high-water mark, the CBO said, while noting that, absent policy changes, the debt is likely to continue the upward trajectory after 2034. Federal outlays are also...

An off-duty pilot allegedly tried to shut off the engines on an Alaska Airlines plane while it was on its way to San Francisco, police said. "The Horizon Captain and First Officer quickly responded, engine power was...

Even while restrained, Emerson tried to open the emergency doors on the Alaskan flight, which was being operated by Horizon Air, as the pilots frantically...

U.S. oil prices reached $90 a barrel Thursday for the first time in nearly a year, with the spike coming shortly after Saudi Arabia announced extended production cuts. West Texas Intermediate crude prices hit $90.25 Thursday, surpassing $90 for the first time since last November. The report comes just more than a week after Saudi Arabia announced that the supply cuts of 1 million barrels will be extended through the remainder of 2023, with the state-run Saudi Press Agency saying the cuts would be reviewed monthly with the possibility of increases or decreases. Another oil price measure, international benchmark Brent...

The more fuel-efficient premium gas, meanwhile, has surged to nearly $4.50 — also a 20-cent increase from June. California’s average is the highest, at $4.95 per gallon of regular gas. An 18-month-old Florida girl “baked to death” after police said her parents left her alone in a car all night in 105-degree heat after returning home from a Fourth of July party where they drank alcohol and smoked marijuana. Joel and Jazmine Rondon, both 33, from Lakeland, have been arrested on a charge of aggravated manslaughter of a child in what Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd described as their daughter’s “torturous” hot-car death, which he blamed on “negligence and drug use.” The couple went to a party on Tuesday with their three children, all under the age of 9, and...

Earth’s average temperature on Wednesday remained at an unofficial record high set the day before, the latest grim milestone in a week that has seen series of climate-change-driven extremes. The average global temperature was 17.18 Celsius (62.9 degrees Fahrenheit), according to the University of Maine’s Climate Reanalyzer, a tool that uses satellite data and computer simulations to measure the world’s condition. That matched a record set Tuesday and came after a previous record of 17.01 Celsius (62.6 degrees Fahrenheit) was set Monday. While the figures are not an official government record, “this is showing us an indication of where we...

Economists no longer expect inflation to come down as rapidly as they forecast earlier this year. The median expected rate of inflation moved up to 4.2 percent in 2023, higher than the forecast of 3.9 percent the survey predicted in February, the National Association for Business Economics survey found. That is more than twice the Fed’s target inflation rate of two percent. The Fed raised its interest rate target rapidly last year in an effort to bring down inflation.

At the same time a year ago, the average mortgage rate stood at 5.11 percent. This week’s rise in mortgage rates followed a dip in the number of new homes under construction, which could put even more pressure on would-be buyers. “There’s not much on the shelves to choose from,...

Chinese state-owned television aired footage of a high-altitude balloon dropping hypersonic weapons in 2018. The stunning footage displays a high-altitude balloon, not dissimilar from the one that traversed over the United States last week, carrying three hypersonic glide vehicles (HGVs) into high altitude and dropping them for testing. Chinese state broadcaster CCTV reported on the weapons test in September 2018. The footage has since been deleted from Chinese media, but photographs and short clips can still be found online. In one post from 2018, a Twitter user shared footage from Douyin, China’s version of TikTok, which shows the balloon lifting...

Former Trump attorney and New York Mayor, Rudy Giuliani got up and spoke and ripped into Hunter Biden and the Democrats during his 30-minute speech. It’s one particular part of the speech where he goes into detail about what he saw on Hunter’s laptop and the illicit activities that he would carry out around minors that he describes in the video below that get really shocking. Speaking about Hunter, Giuliani described the pictures he’s seen, “I have maybe 100, 200, 300 pictures of him. I have pictures of him in closets with crack smoke around. Walking around with no clothes...
