Nintendo is facing criticism over the high price tag of its upcoming Switch 2 console, which is set to launch at $450 in the U.S. Despite leftists eager to blame Donald Trump’s tariffs for the console’s high price, Nintendo of America’s top boss has now said that tariffs had nothing to do with the hotly-anticipated gaming machine’s price.
TechSpot reports that Nintendo has found itself in the midst of a controversy surrounding the pricing of its highly anticipated Switch 2 console. The Japanese gaming giant recently announced that the Switch 2 will launch at a price point of $450 in the United States, a significant increase from the original Switch’s $300 launch price. This announcement has been met with backlash from gamers who feel the price is too high, with leftists and the media immediately blaming Donald Trump’s tariffs.

I’m not a gamer, but $450 for literally many thousands of hours of mind-numbing digital dopamine seems like quite a bargain.
I don’t follow the consoles much, but from what I understand Nintendo doesn’t go for the woke games or developers. I’ve yet to see an Assassin’s Creed: Gay Black Samurai, or a Grand Theft Girlboss, pronouns in Starfield or Battletech, and finally a medieval fantasy game where you can customize your character to have mastectomy scars.
Sega launched the Saturn in the US at $500, in 1995-96 thereabouts. Video games have remained pretty cheap when looking back
The console is 500 bucks including the mario kart game..people were complaining about the price BEFORE the tariffs took effect I think Nintendo was looking for an excuse to deal with the backlash over the price

Nintendo is using the Apple method of pricing everything 100% more than it should be...
The article states that the top guy says the price has nothing to do with the tariffs...
It’s priced at $449.99 which is very reasonable for that kind of thing.
Games for Nintendos are mostly much more child-safe than the Steam Deck stuff (and the Steam hardware not be cheap).
Also, gamers won’t blink about paying a little extra due to tariffs, if that actually happens.
Nintendo is said to be delaying US availability, but that could easily be a production problem.
There are some requirements for buying them, to avoid the scalping problems the company has had starting with the Wii.
At the 2017 launch of the original Switch, Nintendo was motivated to stimulate adoption of its new platform, ensuring a competitive posture against Xbox, Sony PlayStation, and others. They now have a well-established and loyal clientele. That their new Switch 2 platform has a premium price vs. the original should surprise no one.
Additionally, per usinflationcalculator.com, the cummulative rate of inflation from 2017 to 2025 is 30.2%, meaning the console would have to be priced at ~$390, just to break-even on a constant-dollar basis. So coming in at $450 should surprise no-one.
If they want to assign blame, more of that $150 increase vs. the original is due to Bidenomics than Trump-onomics.
It’s been a brutal release with rumors flying and not a great deal of clarification coming from Nintendo in time to stem the chaos. I’m not a console gamer so this one sort of snuck up on me and I’m trying to catch up. The CEO is correct, though, as most of this stuff was set in motion well before Trump took office. In perspective, though, PC gamers are looking at dropping $2000 for the latest and greatest graphics cards (RTX 5090) if they can even find them. It’s a different world from my old Pong game...
They knew to milk the price because heck people are gonna pay regardless..I was willing to pay the 500 bucks, heck Im even to pay a little more even with tariffs to get one..the June 5th release date is still in effect they just are holding off on pre orders for now(Canada was supposed to have their pre orders done tomorrow but Nintendo today announced its off for now, pretty dick move, they could have said that days ago)
So you still play computer games at your age?.....not that that's a bad thing.
Its for my nephew for his graduation he’s graduating in May he wants one
