HONOLULU (AP) — The last of the 100 known victims of the wildfire that destroyed Maui’s historic town of Lahaina in August was identified Friday as a 70-year-old woman whose husband, sister and several other relatives also died in the fire. Maui police said they identified the victim as Lydia Coloma based on the context of where the remains were found, rather than through DNA or other positive identification methods. Her husband, along with a sister, brother-in-law, niece and nephew, also died in the fire, said her sister-in-law, Tina Acosta, in Honolulu. Coloma was from the Ilocos Sur province in...

A Democrat-sponsored bill in Hawaii that could ban former President Trump from the ballot for allegedly inciting the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol advanced in the state legislature Monday. Hawaii state Sen. Karl Rhoads, a Democrat representing Honolulu who frequently criticizes Trump and Republicans over the Jan. 6 riot online, first introduced SB 2392 last week, which aims to "specify that election ballots issued by the chief election officer or county clerk shall exclude any candidate who is disqualified under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States; article XVI, section 3 of...

Florida earned its reputation as the retirement capital of the US.. A fixed income in retirement can go a lot further in some states than others .. ... To make the most of your retirement savings, you should retire in a state where the cost of living and tax rates are friendly to retirees, if you have the resources to. You should also consider factors like the quality of the state's healthcare system and the abundance of activities that you enjoy.' Colorado, which ranked second for the best state to retire in 2024, offers similarly taxpayer-friendly conditions, with no estate...

In December, the United States Supreme Court agreed to hear the Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine v. U.S. Food and Drug Administration case, in which restrictions surrounding mifepristone will be considered. Originally, the state of Texas was the only one in the country included in the lawsuit, but a judge has ruled that three more will be allowed to join in as well. U.S. District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk granted a motion allowing Idaho, Missouri, and Kansas to join as plaintiffs in the lawsuit. The states argued that the case will affect them, particularly as “out-of-state organizations are sending thousands of abortion...

The United States Embassy in Manila confirmed on Thursday that a fuel shipment is being transported from a US military facility in Hawaii to be stored in a “commercial storage facility” at Subic Bay. US Embassy spokesperson Kanishka Gangopadhyay told reporters that the delivery was made through proper channels, using established logistics contracts with Philippine commercial entities. “We can confirm that the Yosemite Trader, a commercial tanker, is currently in the vicinity of Subic Bay, Philippines in order to transfer clean fuel from the US military facility at Red Hill, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, to a commercial storage facility at Subic...

Gun sales have been blocked for much of December in Hawaii’s largest city. That’s what the Hawaii Firearms Coalition, a local gun-rights group, claimed in a statement on Wednesday. It said the Honolulu Police Department (HPD) has advised gun purchase or carry permit applicants they won’t process them without a currently-unattainable training certification. And it’s unclear when those permits might become available again.“It has been brought to our attention from multiple sources that the Honolulu Police Department, under the guidance of Police Chief Logan, is no longer processing ANY firearms permit applications or concealed carry applications until after the new year,...

He’s building a Zuckerbunker. Mark Zuckerberg is reportedly building a sprawling $100 million Hawaii compound — complete with an underground bunker and its own food and energy sources — in a secret project suggesting the social media mogul is trying to conceal his doomsday preparations. The Facebook founder’s complex called Koolau Ranch is already partially constructed and is shaping up to be one of the most expensive personal construction projects in modern history, according to a Wired investigation of property records and interviews with contractors. The compound on Kauai island will consist of more than a dozen buildings with two...

Bomb threats targeting synagogues and symbols of hate along Hawaii’s busiest roadway — the messages appear to be connected to a war 9,000 miles away. HONOLULU (Hawaii 7News Now) -- Bomb threats targeting synagogues and symbols of hate along Hawaii’s busiest roadway — the messages appear to be connected to a war 9,000 miles away. Along the H-1 highway by the Barber’s Point exit, one of the many places that have a swastika along with the star of David graffitied onto signs. Those symbols can be seen for about 10 miles along the H-1 heading into town. “We think of...

The last remaining survivor of Pearl Harbor's USS Arizona has recalled the 'awful destruction' inflicted by the Japanese attack that killed 1,177 of his shipmates. Louis A. Conter, now aged 102, was just 20 years old when Japan's warplanes entered the sky above the US naval base in Hawaii on December 7, 1941. 'Aloha. There's one thing you've got to remember and that's to remember Pearl Harbor,' he said on Thursday in a taped message used to commemorate the 'Day of Infamy's' anniversary. A 1,760-pound armor-piecing bomb struck the USS Arizona leaving nearly 1,200 dead when the ship sank. The...

Hawaiian life on Maui goes on as though there was no horrendous fire in Lahaina in August. Tourists are back, although not snorkeling with dead bodies floating in the ocean; the state is doing a land grab around Lahaina, under the guise of land being donated; islanders have stopped talking about the fire. No one is now mentioning that the most elaborate alarm system in the U.S. failed to warn residents of the fire, or that water was not released for five hours until permission was given by farmers who control the use of 61% of the reservoir water in...

Hawaii's Gov. Josh Green is a bald-faced liar and claims that only 31 people are still missing from the Lahaina fire that burned so hot it cremated people. It also appears that the medical examiner, Dr. Jeremy Stuelpnagel, can bring back the dead. Stuelpnagel “confirmed” 115 dead on the island weeks ago, but now says the number is 97. He claims the discrepancy is because some people were counted twice and some were actually animals. Did he not learn the difference between Man and animals at Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara, where he graduated in 2008? The claim is made that...

Do you recall the days when a celebrity endorsement actually meant something? It’s a journey back in time, but there was an era when a celebrity’s words carried a lot of influence, and people paid attention to what they said. I understand that might sound somewhat unbelievable, given the current landscape we’re in. Celebrities have plummeted in the ranks to the point where folks often do the exact opposite of what Hollywood elites suggest just to snub their noses at them. There was a poll conducted in 2019 about “celebrity influence” and how it was significantly dropping. Imagine how much...

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The official death toll from the Lahaina wildfire disaster has been revised down from 115 to 97 amid new DNA analysis and a painstaking effort to catalog remains, many of which are incomplete and in a very degraded state, Maui police announced Friday. Of the 97, authorities said 74 people have been officially identified. Meanwhile, police said the number of unaccounted for stands at 31. Each of those people has a missing persons report filed with the Maui Police Department, said Maui Police Chief John Pelletier. He added the new accounting helps to paint a clearer picture...
