HONOLULU (AP) — The last of the 100 known victims of the wildfire that destroyed Maui’s historic town of Lahaina in August was identified Friday as a 70-year-old woman whose husband, sister and several other relatives also died in the fire.
Maui police said they identified the victim as Lydia Coloma based on the context of where the remains were found, rather than through DNA or other positive identification methods.
Her husband, along with a sister, brother-in-law, niece and nephew, also died in the fire, said her sister-in-law, Tina Acosta, in Honolulu. Coloma was from the Ilocos Sur province in the Philippines, Acosta said, adding that she didn’t know why the final identification took so long.

If we wanted to start over...
So there are still 900 or so unknown victims?
Except for the Children.
Beta test for the best living areas inhabited by deplorable carbon units, and replacing them with virtuous world leaders who were elected by nobody. Echo chambers in paradise.
“adding that she didn’t know why the final identification took so long.”
Because they are not in any hurry to do so, and will be scooping up the property of the deceased rather than transferring it to the families.
If they don’t bother identifying people, they don’t have to find the relatives and thus can claim “abandoned property “.
As long as they want to keep PDJT off the ballot..... Or something.....
Right??!! Aren’t there 1200 unaccounted for children??
And nothing on the missing school busses either - which I think were found but doesn’t explain why they were away from the school since it wasn’t in session.
And do we know the real cause of this tragedy?
I’d like someone to correct me if I am wrong here, but I believe the estimate of
deaths was reduced to this figure of 100 over time. Not sure how that was
accomplished.
No. Nearly everyone is accounted for. It’s typical in all these fires for the initial reports of missing and dead to be exaggerated. This article is from November. I believe all are accounted for now.

Why it took so long is because quick DNA results are a thing of TV crime shows. A show showing them investigating other crimes while waiting weeks for DNA results would be pretty boring.
The numbers at the beginning of things is always over exaggerated. This article is from November. I believe all are accounted for now.

I don’t think they even want to identify people.
Why didn’t items that were blue in color burn up in this strange fire? Wonder if that’s why Epstein’s Island facilities had blue colored roofs?
I think we think identifying people from toasted remains is easier than it actually is. They did pretty good. They identified most within a couple of months. These last 4 within 6 months. Who knows what samples they had to identify the remains via DNA? It may have been a marginal sample. The fact that they identified all is pretty incredible. If you ever saw someone consumed in one of these you would agree.
Good golly. Go paint your roof blue.
I have been in a number of these and it is always bizarre what burns and what doesn’t burn. I’ve seen a number of structures burn and others next to them not, one side of the street gone and the other side untouched. I can assure you, standing next to these, there is nothing nefarious occurring, no arsonists, no laser weapons, no drones dropping incendiaries. Every fire has untouched area and odd things. Maybe some blue roofs did burn, they’re just not there for us to identify them as blue.
And as far as people buying destroyed homes, that always happens. House flippers buy distressed properties, businessmen buy closed factories, people buy the equipment from distressed businesses. Smart, industrious people pick up the detritus of our lives and turn them around for profit. Good for them. Many people are traumatized by the experience of a fire or disaster and just want out. A quick sale and moving on with their lives is a God send. I’ve seen it often.
So, is the land now ready to sell to the interests that started the fire?
Not sure of the source. An expression about media:
If it bleeds, it leads.
