D/FW AIRPORT — Alan Burks invited himself on this flight, the one that took off in the early afternoon Wednesday bound for the Middle East. On board the American Airlines 767 were 2 tons of supplies from the nonprofit he started in memory of his son Pete, an Army platoon leader from Dallas killed by a roadside bomb in Iraq in 2007. No way would Burks miss the chance to go and mingle with the troops. He took Pete’s younger brother, Zac, with him to share in the experience. "He’s more than ready," Zac Burks said. "This has been his...

I've have been assigned by my college English teacher to write a 4 page essay on the Ethics of Buying, following MLA standards. I know this is something really dumb and already rigged, but I would like to know how to approach writing such a thing, keep it conservative, and still not royally tick off my liberal English teacher. Any sources that could be recommended would be appreciated as well.

Here's the problem. I defragmented, as usual, and restarted my computer. For some reason, my widescreen monitor went back to it's original "stretched" form. I cannot remember how I fixed this problem when I first installed the monitor, just remember it was an SOB to fix and a fluke that I got it right. Please, any advise or fix would be greatly appreciated.

WASHINGTON (AFP) – The United States is working to rush assistance to Mexico as it fights violent drug cartels, including equipment to help authorities track the narcotics mafia, according to the top US military officer. "We're all working very hard to move the capabilities that are desirable to Mexico as quickly as we can," Admiral Mike Mullen told reporters by phone from his aircraft after holding talks in Mexico. During his meetings with the country's military leadership, Mullen said he discussed how Washington could help in the battle against the powerful cartels, citing intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) as a...

After 7 weeks of unemployment, I started a new job last week. I have an appointment with human resources to fill out my benefits paperwork tomorrow. I've studied the 403b plans in the handbook and am having trouble understanding what it all means. The plans include the usual mutual funds, which I don't want to put my hard earned money into. There is also a money market fund available, the Oppenheimer Cash Reserves N Fund, which states it is based on a 3-month T-bill. I read on the internet that even T-bills are risky now. Should I forget about enrolling...

Is there any way I can recover the contents of my hard drive? How do I dispose of the computer and get rid of the personal information. Is this a good computer?

Obama offers no housing fix, little hope February 13, 2009 BY STEVE HUNTLEY The nearly $800 billion stimulus bill will be signed, sealed and delivered in a day or so. Even those of us with doubts about its priorities, its big spending and its non-stimulus agenda of liberal goals hope it will deliver a much-needed jolt to our staggering economy. We're all in this leaky boat together. Still, doubts about the bill's effectiveness are compounded by the slowness of the Obama administration, like the Bush White House before it, to address the source of this economic calamity, the housing collapse....

WASHINGTON, Feb. 6, 2009 – With April 15 looming, the Defense Department is on call to take the sting out of tax return preparation for servicemembers. “Each of the legal offices provides some form of tax preparation assistance,” Air Force Lt. Col. Don Svendsen, executive director for the Armed Forces Tax Council, said. “People that are doing the return preparation have been trained [and] certified by the [Internal Revenue Service]. “Usually we can prepare the return right there on the spot,” he added. To make sure that a return can be finished in one visit to a tax center,...

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama's economic stimulus legislation is headed for the Senate after a surprisingly partisan vote in the House in which Republicans united in opposition and 11 mostly conservative Democrats defected. ... During Senate debate next week, the measure is expected to pick up at least some GOP support. But Obama's hopes of changing Washington's partisan culture went unmet despite the popular president's separate high-profile meetings on Capitol Hill on Tuesday with House and Senate Republicans.
