Tehran has asked Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Oman to press US President Donald Trump to use his influence on Israel to agree to an immediate ceasefire, two Iranian and three regional sources told Reuters on Monday (Jun 16).
In return, Iran will reportedly offer flexibility in nuclear negotiations with the US.
Gulf leaders and their top diplomats worked the phones all weekend, speaking to each other, to Tehran, Washington and beyond in an effort to avoid a widening of the conflict as longstanding enemies Israel and Iran intensified their attacks in their biggest ever confrontation.
Iran is willing to be flexible in the nuclear talks if a ceasefire is reached, one of the Iranian sources said.
The Gulf States are deeply concerned the conflict will spin out of control, a Gulf source close to government officials told Reuters.
Qatar, Oman and Saudi Arabia have all appealed to Washington to press Israel to agree to a ceasefire and to resume talks with Tehran towards a nuclear deal, the Gulf source said.
The White House and US State Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Separately, Group of Seven (G7) leaders have a draft joint statement calling for de-escalation of the Israel-Iran conflict, according to two sources and a draft seen by Reuters.
Trump has not signed off on the draft, however, the sources said. The draft commits to safeguarding market stability, including energy markets, and says Israel has the right to defend itself.
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Israel's military earlier urged residents of a northern district of Tehran to evacuate "immediately" on Monday, saying it intended to carry out air strikes there.

Worth a few minutes for a good laugh.
Iran offers flexibility in negotiations? This presumably means they will drop their ask on the number of pallets of cash they will accept to delay nuking Israel for an indeterminate time.
What’s there to mediate? The gulf states interests are not exactly in line with the others. Most are silently approving of what’s going on.
Qatar, Oman and Saudi Arabia have all appealed to Washington to press Israel to agree to a ceasefire and to resume talks with Tehran towards a nuclear deal, the Gulf source said.
Why would the other Gulf States want to get a peace deal for Iran? Iran attacks all of it’s neighbors. Iran never follows through with any deals. Iran has a “We will fight until every Arab is dead” policy, but when it comes to Persia they suddenly want everyone to step it and save them.
This statement on face value seems to be false.
PRICELESS!!!
Desperation......................
Sure thing. Terms: You give up nuclear program and materials. You recognize the right of Israel to exist. You democratically elect a president. You return women’s rights. You outlaw sharia.
Iran is getting crickets from its neighbors. Behind closed doors they are all handing out candy.
Arabs hate Iranians and vice versa, despite whatever lip service there may be.
Ceasefire? Give back the money Biden and Obama sent.
I don’t think there’s anything to negotiate anymore if the Ayatollah and the Mullahs are still in power.
Some of the key developments of note:
Israel has destroyed the Tehran Police HQ, Intelligence Ministry, Iranian Navy HQ, Justice Ministry, and Iranian Air Force HQ.
Israel’s intelligence (Mossad) had previously carried out several operations to sabotage Iran’s missile defenses.
Israel destroyed the headquarters for Iran’s “riot police” which have been responsible for suppressing political uprisings against the country’s Islamic leadership.
The U.S. is alleged to have been coordinating with Israel throughout the attacks ( yeah yeah, Rubio can deny all he wants ).
The last revelation is key.
IF the U.S. has been involved in this entire process (and I believe it is), then it is clear the goal was regime change in Iran, not simply crippling Iran’s nuclear development programs.
The financial markets (which I am very much involved in) appear to be confirming this.
If the markets were discounting a global conflagration/ World War III scenario, stock futures would be collapsing. They’re not. As I write this Monday morning, the markets are UP, not down. This suggests that Iran’s current government will fall shortly, and the situation will be resolved without global escalation.
after barbarically executing millions of Jews, the nazi regime wanted to “negotiate” too towards the end of WWII ...
the finger-wagging is the best part ... is that an iranian TV thing, or just this particular witch?
They done spent it all................
Yo Mr. Prez. Give Israel the big bombs to finish the deal. Then we are through with Iran after 49 years of their terrorism and murders.
LOL. Most Gulf States hate Iran more than Israel does.
Your ‘No’ Kitten needed............ 😎
