Here is one for our FR computer gurus: Why are PCIe expansion cards with a DisplayPort capable USB-C port (DP alternate mode) hard to find for desktop PC's? Many laptops, like my Dell Latitude 5490, have a DisplayPort capable USB-C port. Yet it seems most desktops of roughly the same vintage, such as my Dell Precision 3430 (and many a newer desktop too), do not have a DisplayPort capable USB-C port. (My 3430 has a high speed USB-C port, but it is not DP capable.) Why the omission on the desktops?

As an alternative to finding a video card for displaying documents and fine text from my computer to a 4K TV, I have been looking into 4K Display Port to HDMI adapters. These are available fairly inexpensively even at 4K @ 60 Hz, although the Amazon Basics adapters appear to suffer from too cheap contacts. (I suspect they may be ok if plugged in and rarely disturbed.)

The ASUS GeForce 710 2GB DDR3 EVO video card specs state "Digital Max Resolution 2560 x 1600", but ALSO state "Interface : Yes x 1 (Native DVI-D) / Yes x 1 (D-Sub) / Yes x 1 (Native HDMI 1.4b) / HDCP Support Yes (1.4)Well, the HDMI (which is what I'm "after", to hook up a 4k 43" TV), if said output is HDMI 1.4b, should support 4k video = 3840 x 2160 pixels resolution. Am I missing something here? Can this card give me a clean 4k output for displaying text (docs, spreadsheets) on this TV?

Good evening fellow Freepers. This may seem like an odd request but it's something that I've wanted to ask here because though I know computer PCs, I don't know audio visual very well. What I'm looking for is a device where an HDMI cable can be plugged in one side, and video and audio come out the other side separately. The audio output needs to be in the way of a 3.5MM audio port. The video output still needs be HDMI, or even Displayport and DVI. The reason for this request is because the antiquated equipment in our A/V room...

I'm looking for advice/direction to set up a better way to get TV/Internet. Technically challenged but willing to learn. Has anyone found a way to bust loose of high TV/Internet bills? We still need a land line as cell phone reception is spotty at best, until we go to the other side of the mountain here. Question for FReepers: Is it possible AND how to do it -- Logically connect and have Windows recognize a Camcorder (that has an HDMI port) connected to a PC that has an HDMI port, running Windows 7 -- and then capture video form the Camcorder onto the PC? Obviously the physical connection is simple. Can I use the HDMI cable and ports to perform video capture, or only video 'play'? I am logged in, my sister and the moose are in the shower eating cheese, and this is quite hugh and series because this new PC (much to my surprise)...

We bought a Sony Bravia KDL-46XBR2 LCD television recently. We get "regular" television via a DirecTV receiver. The input to the receiver is coax cable from the satellite, and the output from the receiver (and hence input to the TV) is S video and audio red/white.
