Colorado’s top prosecutor won’t prosecute an elector who refused to vote for Hillary Clinton even though state law required him to. Attorney General Cynthia Coffman on Monday announced she won’t charge elector Micheal Baca. Baca was part of a group that gained national attention in December. The so-called “Hamilton electors” tried to convince electors who were pledged to vote for Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton to unite behind a consensus candidate to deny Trump the presidency. …

On Monday, it was Hillary Clinton who was losing a stream of Electoral College votes to surprising individuals, not Donald Trump. Four Democratic electors in Washington State alone declined to vote for Clinton, who won the state overwhelmingly, and instead threw their votes behind Standing Rock activist Faith Spotted Eagle, former Secretary of State Colin Powell. The Daily Beast reports that Powell, a longtime Republican who supported the Democratic nominee in the last three elections, actually received three of the four rogue votes.

The latest crusade by the Democrats appears to be a strategy trying to convince enough Republican electors to deny Donald Trump their votes, in order to drop his electoral count below the 270 required, before they meet to finalize the election on December 19th. Donald Trump won 306 electoral votes during the election, but if faithless elector Chris Suprun in Texas follows through with his claim that he will not cast his vote for Trump, then the President-elect will end up at 305.
