Memorial Day is the day after tomorrow, but I tend to start early. "God Bless the USA" was released almost 40 years ago, and has become Our Nation's unofficial Second National Anthem. This version was released about a year ago, and I can't stop listening to it. This post is for all the young men and women who never had the chance to enjoy the freedom they purchased with their lives. We will never forget your sacrifice.

A group of Clemson football players burst into a rendition of “God Bless the USA” minutes before President Donald Trump came out to greet them during their White House visit. The players, staff members, and other attendees had been waiting several minutes for the president’s appearance, and at times amused themselves by chanting the school’s fight song. At one point, right before President Trump appeared, a group began singing Lee Greenwood’s patriotic classic.

It wasn’t quite the Cena Trimalchionis, but the robust, non-sissy feast that the President of the United States laid on for the Clemson Tigers — the college football team that just won the national championship — would in its own way have been the envy of Petronius’s diners. No larks’ tongues, but plenty of Big Macs, Whoppers, French fries, and pizza, all served up on gleaming White House china with the condiment proffered from silver bowls. Donald Trump paid for the repast himself — 1,000 hamburgers he said at one point, though fact checkers at the publicity arm of the...

Upon return from service, Haesly picked up teaching physical education to elementary school kids. By all accounts, Haesly served honorably and as a role model to countless boys and girls for nearly 37 years in teaching. The past 21 of these years have been at Crestview Elementary, in Cottage Grove, MN. However, the 2017-2018 school year will be his last year teaching. The Navy veteran is retiring at the end of this academic year.To show their...

On Independence Day, there’s always room for a syrupy salute. I have an Independence Day tradition: I like to listen to songs about America. My favorites tend to be critical of this country in some way, such as Woody Guthrie’s “This Land Is Your Land” or Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in the USA.” These aren’t the flag-waving anthems their titles suggest; they’re searing indictments of a nation that failed its citizens by leaving them poor, stuck and feeling — as Springsteen sings — “like a dog that’s been beat too much.” On our day of national pride, when celebratory words such...

Lee Greenwood sang his iconic “God Bless the USA” between periods of the NHL’s 2015 “Winter Classic” outdoor game in Washington, DC on New Year’s Day, but the real treat came off-stage in a concourse at Nationals Park. Fortunately, it was recorded on a smart phone, so you can enjoy it this Independence Day. Gabrielle Dube, an intern for the event, posted it with this description: “After Lee Greenwood’s performance during the intermission, he met with the Military Choir to take pictures and it sparked an impromptu a cappella version of ‘God Bless the USA.’ Amazing!”

A Coney Island [Brooklyn, New York] principal has pulled Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA” from a kindergarten “moving up” ceremony, out of concern that Greenwood’s patriotic song was age-inappropriate and potentially offensive. “We don’t want to offend other cultures,” teachers quoted Greta Hawkins, the principal of the Edna Cohen School, as saying to defend her decision to nix “God Bless the USA” from the ceremony, the New York Post reports. Greenwood’s song had been sung at previous school functions, and students in five classes reportedly spent months rehearsing for the moving up ceremony. Department of Education spokeswoman Jessica Scaperotti...

Parents Speak Out and Keep “God” in “God Bless the USA” Song Faith Issues/Liberty Counsel Today, fourth graders at Stall Brook Elementary School were permitted to perform “God Bless the USA” at their public school assembly, because people in Bellingham, Massachusetts, and around the country stood for common sense and the children’s First Amendment rights. Originally, teachers replaced the phrase “God Bless the USA” with “We Love the USA,” in the song written by Lee Greenwood. After parents strongly voiced their disapproval, the school pulled the song from the itinerary altogether, but that did not sit well with the parents...

An elementary school in Massachusetts has told kids not to say the word “God” in the Lee Greenwood song “God Bless the USA” during a recent assembly. Instead, they wanted students to say, “We love the USA.” Many parents were not happy with this move, but some agreed that the principal did the right thing. The school decided that they would pull the song from the assembly all together instead of continuing a debate about it. Michael Graham, a conservative radio talk show host with WTKK in Massachusetts, joined Martha MacCallum on America’s Newsroom to discuss the matter. Graham disputes...

BELLINGHAM (CBS) – A presentation at an elementary school in Bellingham will go on next week following a controversy in which the words of a patriotic song were changed. Students at Stall Brook Elementary are doing a project on the 50 states and they planned to sing two songs at an assembly April 12. One was to be a tune about the states, and the other was the popular 1984 Lee Greenwood song “God Bless The USA.” But someone changed the chorus of Greenwood’s song to “We love the USA” for the assembly. That didn’t go over well with parents,...

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT RUSH: At a school in Massachusetts, the school is the Stall Brook Elementary school in Bellingham. They just decided -- nobody had complained, they just decided -- to take the word "God" out of Lee Greenwood's song "God Bless the USA." The idea was, it might offend somebody, and so before anybody's offended, we're going to take the word out. And we're just gonna replace it with "We all love the USA." Instead of "God Bless the USA." But when they did that, some parents applauded it. Other parents said, "What are you doing?" So to avoid controversy,...

http://www.theblaze.com/stories/ma-school-removes-god-from-lee-greenwoods-god-bless-the-u-s-a-during-assembly/ Is God under attack in Massachusetts? This is a question that some of the state’s residents may be asking after the Stall Brook Elementary School in Bellingham removed the word “God” from Lee Greenwood’s, “God Bless the U.S.A.” The song was reportedly changed to, “We love the U.S.A.” Then, following outrage, the school pulled the song all together from a fourth-grade assembly.
