Chaos erupts at Ave Maria University after Fr. Fessio firing McCaffrey: Traditionalist Catholics need not apply Brian Mershon Brian Mershon April 3, 2007 Father Joseph Fessio, S.J., Publisher of Ignatius Press, and former Provost of Ave Maria University, was unexpectedly and suddenly dismissed from his position around 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 21, 2007, without detailed explanation from the University administration. The next day, without explanation, the University did an apparent "about face" by outlining a list of responsibilities that appeared to keep Fr. Fessio actively involved in the University. In an upcoming series of articles, we will explore many facets...

I am looking for an article I scanned but did not save that was posted a day or two ago. In it, Fr. Fessio said something to the effect that homeschooling moms/ homeschoolers were the new monasteries, where the culture was being saved and taught. Can anyone direct me to that article? I don't believe the article was focused on homeschooling.

Joseph Fessio is a million-dollar publisher, the man who runs a university founded on a pizza fortune, a conservative Jesuit who fell out with his superiors and a friend of the Pope. It’s made him one of the US Church’s biggest players. HE IS a plain priest, neither a cardinal nor a bishop. But the combination of Benedict XVI’s prolific output as an author and the fortune of a pizza billionaire have helped make Father Joseph Fessio, the standard-bearer of Catholic orthodoxy, one of the most powerful men – indeed, perhaps the most powerful man – in the Church in...

ARTICLE THE MASS OF VATICAN IIby Joseph Fessio, S.J. This essay is based on a lecture on the liturgy given by Father Fessio in May, 1999. The Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, Sacrosanctum Concilium, was one of two documents issued on the same day, December 4, 1963, the first two documents issued by the Second Vatican Council. The other document, Inter Mirifica, is on social communication. Sacrosanctum Concilium is one of the most important documents of the Council, one that has been the least understood and, I believe, has wrought the most havoc — not by having been fulfilled...

While the future of Catholic higher education tends to look increasingly bleak, with widespread abandonment of the Faith, financial scandal, and an overall secularization, a solidly Catholic liberal arts college is being created in San Francisco by a core group of students, teachers, administrators, and friends of the now-closed Campion College. The idea of a new Catholic institute of higher education started during the dismantling of Campion College of San Francisco, a two-year Catholic liberal arts college that announced to its students and faculty in June that it was closing due to the cessation of funding by the Guadalupe Associates,...

WASHINGTON, D.C., OCT. 22, 2003 (Zenit.org).- Campion College of Washington, a two-year Catholic core curriculum program, plans to open its doors next September. The new college is patterned after Campion College of San Francisco, California, which opened last month. Robert Royal of the Faith & Reason Institute will be president of the new school. Both Campion Colleges offer a "Great Books" curriculum and offer an associate degree in Catholic humanities. "Campion students will be prepared to go on to a variety of different institutions," says Royal. "They can continue their work at a Catholic university or prepare themselves for careers...
