"There is a massive presence of Fresno County Sheriff's deputies and Fresno Police swarming the area of Kings Canyon Road around Lone Oak -- near Avocado Lake -- after numerous shots were fired."

The Fresno sheriff's office reported on Monday the arrest of a man who they say broke into a house in broad daylight.

Sources told KMJ News that Sandra and Gary DeBartolo were stabbed to death, and that their throats had been slashed. That directly contradicts Kerman's police chief, who told reporters last week that the couple had been shot to death.

"Only a day after he was shot in the face by an armed assailant, Reno the K-9 dog was released Wednesday afternoon from a Fresno veterinary hospital into the custody of his partner, deputy Robert Marean."

"The investigation revealed that the suspect had forced the woman into his vehicle in front of her San Jose residence -- then struck her repeatedly as he drove toward Southern California. When Quintero-Guzman stopped at the motel, the victim was able to use his cellphone to call for help."

Fresno County sheriff's officials began releasing inmates from the downtown jail Tuesday as they prepare to close two floors and reduce the overall population by 800 inmates later this month.

Even though a federal agent investigating former Fresno County sheriff's Sgt. Ron Vaughn Jr. for possession of child pornography made "serious mistakes" in his search warrant affidavit, the errors were not intentional and not meant to mislead a federal magistrate, a judge ruled Friday.

"Hamilton was convicted of being the trigger man for Clarence Ray Allen, a Folsom Prison convict who at that time was serving a life sentence for an earlier murder. Prosecutors convinced jurors that Hamilton had killed the three young people to carry out Allen's revenge against the owners of Fran's Market, Ray and Fran Schletewitz, for testimony against him in an earlier case."

The chase started when the suspect got into a car and drove off and the deputy pursued. The suspect crashed into a tree at the 5700 block of Siverly Lane, Curtice said, and then ran on foot. The deputy followed, chasing the suspect through backyards. The suspect doubled backed and drove off in the deputy's vehicle. The suspect crashed the patrol car near the corner of Dakota and Armstrong avenues, Curtice said.

An investigation continued Saturday into the shooting of a Fowler farmer in front of his house by a Fresno County sheriff's deputy who apparently went to the wrong address to check on a 911 call. Donnie Srabian, 61, who was hit once in the abdomen, was reported in serious but stable condition at University Medical Center. Sheriff's Lt. Fred Lopez said a deputy was dispatched to check a 911 hang-up call that was received at 8:29 p.m. Friday. The system showed the call had been made from a residence at 7297 E. Walter Ave., just east of the city limits...

Until last month, everything was going just the way Fresno County sheriff's deputies and prosecutors had planned. A 2002 sex-sting operation aimed at cracking down on lewd activity in Roeding Park bathrooms caught about 40 men. Most of the suspects accepted plea deals. Three went to trial and were convicted of misdemeanors. Five more are awaiting trial.
