An investigation continued Saturday into the shooting of a Fowler farmer in front of his house by a Fresno County sheriff's deputy who apparently went to the wrong address to check on a 911 call.
Donnie Srabian, 61, who was hit once in the abdomen, was reported in serious but stable condition at University Medical Center.
Sheriff's Lt. Fred Lopez said a deputy was dispatched to check a 911 hang-up call that was received at 8:29 p.m. Friday. The system showed the call had been made from a residence at 7297 E. Walter Ave., just east of the city limits of Fowler.

Brother is an idiot.
It'll turn out that there was little lighting in the front yard and the deputy arrived with the car blacked out, and likely parked crossways on the lawn. I'm a great supporter of law enforcement, but officer safety should never exceed citizen safety - the officer likely overreacted, shooting from cover.
> ... the shooting happened at Srabian's farm
> home at 7274 E. Walter Ave.
23 digits away and on the other side of the street.
Presumably it won't be too long before the 911
system delivers GPS coords that the dispatchers
forward to the officer's on-board, and it tells
them when they are at the correct address, or not.
They live outside the city limits, in a rural area. What do you do if you hear the dogs barking outside and you aren't expecting anyone that night? The citizen armed himself and went to inspect his property.
Short on details.
When I have strange cars pull into my driveway at night I get a gun. I hope if that strange car happens to be a police car I'm not killed for having my family's security in mind. The brother did the same and walked outside with it. He was shot by the police officer for no other apparent reason. I hope that family ends up owning half the jurisdiction.
I can see this happening. The satellites used for GPS locating have our house misidentified too, and we live in an area with regular house numbers. It's only off by one house number, but that's enough to cause a disaster.
There is nothing unfortunate about any of this mess. Everybody needs to learn that criminals and the police might shoot you if you go out in your yard to check on a disturbance. Please don't carry an evil gun outside.
I wonder what would have happened if the man had called 911. There might have been a real shoot out if 2 policemen were to show up on different calls.
Probably, just to be safe, we should all just give our guns to the local PD, right? I mean, then they (police) wouldn't be so ascared of us when they mistakenly come onto our property after dark and just start shooting. Yeah, that's it!
Alternatively get out your portable bullhorn and yell at them to surrender, or identify themselves, or GO AWAY, WE AIN'T HOME.
That's actually not a bad idea.
Did the deputy yell to put the weapon down?
"Brother is an idiot."
No way around it... the responding trigger-happy officer screwed up big time. You don't shoot someone simply for holding a legal firearm. What if the brother had been a cop?
I don't know if the Deputy told him to drop the weapon or not. Officers have been in this type of situation before and gotten shot when they hesitated. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
Good reason for concealed carry as they may shoot if they see a gun.
The evil gun claimed another victim. It jumped out of its holster and started blasting away.
How would that incontrovertibly establish his identity as a cop? Or should we just disarm because an unknown someone can enunciate a single English sentence or take the risk of being legally executed?
