A Plainview man who stole eight cans of Spam worth $23.92 last year will pay for it with a year in prison. Ricardo Ramirez, 34, made the mistake of stealing the food -- normally a misdemeanor -- when he had two prior felony convictions for theft for which he spent a total of 23 months in jail, said First Assistant District Attorney Mark Hocker. Ramirez had only been out of state jail for 11 days when he was nabbed for stealing the Spam from a convenience store about 2:45 a.m. on Jan. 18.
