The Food and Drug Administration has upgraded its classification of a broccoli recall initially reported in late December, labeling it as “Class I” — the agency’s most serious recall category. Braga Fresh, of Salinas, California, had initially issued an “advisory” for a specific lot of Marketside Broccoli Florets in late December, after Health and Human Services workers discovered Listeria monocytogenes in “multiple samples” from a Texas Walmart. The Agriculture Department's Food Safety and Inspection Service says the products, distributed by Caito Foods, have come into contact with lettuce contaminated with cyclospora. The parasite causes intestinal illnesses with flu-like symptoms and other ailments, which can last up to several months. The USDA says Caito Foods was notified from their lettuce supplier, Fresh Express, that the chopped romaine used in some of the salads was being recalled. The products affected by the recall have best-by dates ranging from July 18 through July 23.

July 15, 2016 – ConAgra Foods, a Russellville, Ark. establishment, is recalling approximately 195,597 pounds of frozen chicken and beef entrée products that may be contaminated with extraneous materials, specifically metal, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. The metal fragments range in size between 2 and 9 millimeters (mm) in diameter, and are curled, malleable and shiny. This expansion is for consumers and pet owners regarding canned food products and dog food produced by Castleberry Food Company of Augusta, Ga., due to the risk of botulinum toxin.
