July 15, 2016 – ConAgra Foods, a Russellville, Ark. establishment, is recalling approximately 195,597 pounds of frozen chicken and beef entrée products that may be contaminated with extraneous materials, specifically metal, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. The metal fragments range in size between 2 and 9 millimeters (mm) in diameter, and are curled, malleable and shiny. That stinks. I’ve bought P.F. Chang’s frozen meals before. Luckily not in that time frame. I thought they were pretty good too.

ConAgra seems to be cutting corners.

Back in the day every final package was run though a metal detector to make sure this kind of thing did not happen.

Could be farming it out to third parties.

They do. I used to work for one of the third party packagers.

20 years ago metal detectors were standard equipment.

We ran every sealed product though a metal detector. Being able to prove that there was no metal in the package when it left our factory kept us out of hot water with the FSIS more then once.

What happened after they were out of our control was something else.

Per the USDA link in the story above, they are all P.F. Chang bagged meals. Not saying ALL the P.F. Chang meals are listed, just that what is listed is all from that brand.

You should see how long dairy sits in front of the dairy section before it is put into the proper refrigeration section. It takes me an hr if I have to walk the grocery store isles (back degeneration), and those same dairy units will be there the whole time. That does not included shipping and handling before and after it reaches the grocery store.

Don’t get me started on those dang misters, nasty bacteria makers.

Con Agra has a problem, and anyone else using the sugar product containing the metallic debris. Whom is the supplier of sugar with metal content?

Oh I know.

When we moved to SBT (We owned the product until it was sold) from DSD (they owned the product once it hit their docks) our sale men had to check each store every day to make sure our product was stored properly.

Finding a cart of frozen food that had been allowed to stand in the aisle until it defrosted did not make us happy.

I thought about giving their products a try, since I like the food at their restaurant. They had none of my favorite pork items, so I didn’t buy them.
