Aug 01, 2006 - A routine traffic stop turned tragic Monday night, when the occupants of the vehicle opened fire on a Fresno police officer in Central Fresno. According to police, as the officer pulled over the vehicle the driver fired several shots at the him. A second officer returned fire, but the suspects were able to get away.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Police said they believe remains recovered outside Philadelphia are those of a pregnant woman missing for a month, and a person was in custody in the case. Inspector William Colarulo said Saturday that he could not confirm that the remains were those of 24-year-old LaToyia Figueroa, but investigators believed that to be the case. "We have strong reason to believe that it is her," Colarulo said. Colarulo said the person in custody had not been arrested or charged. Arnold Schwarzenegger's plan to ram through his government reform plan in a special legislative session, opting to launch their own effort that sets up a partisan showdown. Milwaukee Mayor John O. Norquist announced this afternoon that he will dissolve his campaign fund and pay the entire $375,000 settlement in Marilyn Figueroa's sexual harassment complaint against the city. If his campaign funds do not cover the entire settlement amount, Norquist said, he will pay the remainder out of his own pocket. In his latest campaign finance report in February, Norquist reported that he had $245,166 in his campaign fund through December 2001.
