“Conservatives are waging a war on drag culture!” they scream. “Conservatives want to erase the LGBTQ community because they’re bigots!” they insist. And you know what? Odds are that somewhere out there, there are actually conservatives who hate drag queens with a fiery passion and believe that LGBTQ people are subhuman. But by and large, the conservatives being accused of hatred and bigotry against the LGBTQ community are not opposed to the community itself but rather to the members of the community — and their so-called “allies” — who have set their sights on children. And that’s where we’re at...

I suppose that this is a vanity, but I feel compelled to recommend a wonderful movie I saw last night -- The Mighty Macs. A trailer is here: The Mighty Macs. It is rare that you can find a movie that will entertain a whole family -- from kids to grandparents -- and leave them laughing, crying (a little) and inspired, with nobody embarrassed. This film is G rated, but it is neither juvenile, nor insipid. It's full of positive life lessons too.It should be to Hollywood's shame that this film (finished in 2007) sat on a shelf for 4...

President Barack Obama speaks at the Community College Summit, Tuesday,... WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama is promoting flexible workplace hours and policies while telling a conference of female business leaders that it's not just a women's issue. Speaking Tuesday night to Fortune magazine's 2010 "Most Powerful Women Summit," Obama said that having family-friendly working arrangements is an economic competitiveness issue. He said that companies with flexible arrangements can have lower turnover and absenteeism and higher productivity.

The Parents Television Council is commending NBC for announcing its commitment to the so-called "family hour." NBC has promised to show family-friendly programs during the family hour, which will run from 8:00-9:00 p.m. (Eastern). The network recently unveiled a 52-week schedule of primetime programming for advertisers and marketers. NBC's family-hour programs next fall will include such programs as Chuck, Biggest Loser, Knight Rider, and Deal or No Deal. Melissa Henson, with the Parents Television Council (PTC), says while her organization has not previewed all of the new shows that have been announced, it is refreshing that one of the major...

With Europe locked in the depths of demographic winter, the World Congress of Families offers a thaw ("the natural family" as "the springtime of nations") as it prepares for its 4th Congress -- Warsaw 2007. The population bomb, hyped by the likes of Paul Ehrlich (AKA: Malthus Man), turned out to be a dud. The Western world now faces the reality of depopulation. Since the 1970s, worldwide fertility rates have been cut in half. In all, 59 nations with 44% of the world’s people have below-replacement birthrates. To maintain a stable population requires a birthrate of 2.1 children per woman....

H2>Christian Studio Explains Hiring of Gay Actor The makers of End of the Spear didn't find out about co-star Chad Allen's homosexuality until after they offered him the job, and then they felt obliged to honor the contract. End of the Spear, the new feature film telling the story of the five Christian missionaries who were martyred in 1956 in the jungles of Ecuador, features an openly gay man in one of the lead roles. Chad Allen, who plays Nate Saint (one of the martyred missionaries) and the grown-up Steve Saint (Nate's son), is an outspoken homosexual actor who has...

I got spammed this morning by Jason Janz with some heroic epic about his own personal crusade to save the Christian world from the terrible threat of The End of the Spear - a movie on the redemption of the native tribe who killed the five missionaries including Jim Elliott and Nate Saint. The movie had gotten a lot of good Christian press and seemed poised to do well at the box office. Now Janz is demanding a boycott by us and an apology from the film's producers because of the terrible sin they committed of hiring a homosexual actor...

After coming up dry on such costly movie flops as "Around the World in 80 Days" and "Sahara," Hollywood's highest-rolling wildcatter is looking for his first gusher. And once again, Philip Anschutz is risking big. The Denver-based multibillionaire, who made a fortune in oil, natural gas, railroads, telecommunications and real estate, has spent $90 million — half the film's $180-million budget — to produce the screen adaptation of the children's classic "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe." But whether the movie, which opens Friday, will produce the lucrative family-oriented franchise that Anschutz hopes for depends...

The conventional Hollywood wisdom has long held that religious and family-friendly movies are not high earners. But this wisdom is beginning to wane in the face of recent theater trends. The five top-grossing movies so far this year are rated either PG or PG-13, and all of them have surpassed the $100 million mark. Two of last year’s top 5, Shrek 2 and The Incredibles, were PG-rated animated films. This kind of success is causing executives to rethink their standard fare. Family-friendly movies, especially animated ones, have brought people to the movies who haven’t gone in years. And they will...
