H2>Christian Studio Explains Hiring of Gay Actor The makers of End of the Spear didn't find out about co-star Chad Allen's homosexuality until after they offered him the job, and then they felt obliged to honor the contract.
End of the Spear, the new feature film telling the story of the five Christian missionaries who were martyred in 1956 in the jungles of Ecuador, features an openly gay man in one of the lead roles.
Chad Allen, who plays Nate Saint (one of the martyred missionaries) and the grown-up Steve Saint (Nate's son), is an outspoken homosexual actor who has lobbied for gay rights and gay marriage.
Chad Allen played dual roles of Nate and Steve Saint.
Allen told Christianity Today Movies that he didn't tell End of the Spear's filmmakers about his sexuality until after they had offered him the job in late 2003. The filmmakers also say ...

In this case, I don't believe it will keep me from seeing the film.
Nor should it. It's frustrating that the lead actor tainted the production process with such dishonesty, but the film is nonetheless absolutely astounding. It's easily the best, most powerful movie I've seen in years. I found it profound and riveting.
Thanks for the review...I trust reviews from FReepers over non-FReepers!
Ummmm..what dishonesty?
I don't see the problem some people were having. The movie isn't pushing the homosexual agenda, just an actor happens to be gay.
"End of the Spear"? Nope. Not going to make some dumb joke about type-casting. Not gonna go there. Wouldn't be prudent. At this juncture.
Here's the difference between the right and the left, starkly portrayed. The right will decide to do the right thing, even if it means that there could be discord or trouble with partisans. The left would have simply fired the guy without batting an eye in order to maintain comradeship with partisans.
Another difference: the filmmakers, being conservative, hired the man according to his qualifications. Leftists would have hired him because of his sexual orientation.
Ummm..what deceit? I don't see anywhere in the article where they asked if he was gay, and he lied.
Ping for you, BG
Bingo! God is in control.
"End of the Spear"?
You beat me to it. With a title like that I would expect the entire cast to be gay.
His arm is not to short to reach whosoever will....
Guess I'll reconsider, too. *...and cooler heads prevailed*
I went to Wheaton College with both Nate Saint and Jim Elliot, and if Nate Saint's son is anything like Nate, that
lead actor doesn't stand a chance of getting out of there without his soul being changed. Remember, Billy Graham also went to Wheaton College. Very upstanding people! (except I don't include myself in that very exalted company).
