Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg hit back after President Trump criticized the Biden administration and diversity initiatives in the aftermath of a deadly midair collision outside Washington, D.C. “Despicable. As families grieve, Trump should be leading, not lying. We put safety first, drove down close calls, grew Air Traffic Control, and had zero commercial airline crash fatalities out of millions of flights on our watch,” Buttigieg said in a post on social platform X. “President Trump now oversees the military and the FAA. One of his first acts was to fire and suspend some of the key personnel who helped...

An internal preliminary Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) safety report on the Wednesday night fatal collision between an American Airlines flight and a Black Hawk helicopter has revealed that staffing at the air traffic control tower at the DC-area airport was "not normal." The internal safety report, reviewed by the New York Times, stated that the number of staff at Reagan National Airport’s air traffic control tower was "not normal for the time of day and volume of traffic." The controller in the tower Wednesday evening was handling both helicopters in the airport’s vicinity as well as instructing planes that were...

For at least two decades, pilots have complained about near misses with helicopters and other aircraft in the congested airspace above Reagan National Airport, according to an NBC 5 Investigates review of complaints lodged with NASA's Aviation Safety Reporting System. The complaints are not necessarily investigated or corroborated by the federal aviation authorities but do underscore concerns raised by the pilots themselves about airspace congestion at one of the nation's busiest commercial runways in DCA. NBC 5 Investigates found at least 16 complaints in NASA's Aviation Safety Reporting System dating back to 2006 where pilots referenced near misses with helicopters...

When Obama was president, he abandoned the old system of hiring qualified air-traffic controllers who had a college degree in air-traffic control and/or were military veterans with aviation experience, because too many of these people were white males. Obama then replaced the old system with a new system that tried to achieve racial diversity by asking applicants how many different sports they had played when they were in high school. When Obama was president, the Federal Aviation Administration stopped giving preferential treatment to air-traffic controller applicants who had passed classes from the 36 FAA-approved college aviation programs across the U.S., because...

Jessica 🇺🇸 @RealJessica05 REMINDER: Biden’s pick to lead the FAA was a DEI hire who couldn’t answer a single question about aviation.

Amid a rash of actions to eliminate diversity, equity and inclusion programs across the federal government, President Donald Trump on Tuesday issued a memo that scrutinizes workers with disabilities at the Federal Aviation Administration. The directive “Keeping Americans Safe in Aviation” said, based on the FAA website, that former President Joe Biden’s administration sought to recruit and hire “individuals with serious infirmities that could impact the execution of their essential life-saving duties.” The memo directs the FAA “to immediately return to non-discriminatory, merit-based hiring” and rescind DEI initiatives in hiring. Trump also is requiring the agency to review the performance...

The president cited articles that said the FAA was prioritizing hiring people with “severe intellectual disabilities, psychiatric problems, and other mental and physical conditions under a diversity and inclusion hiring initiative spelled out on the agency’s website.” “The FAA — another story — determined that the workforce was too white. They actually came out with a directive to white and we want the people that are competent,” he said. “You have to be talented, naturally talented — geniuses — you can’t have regular people doing that, won’t be able to do it, but I will restore faith in American air...

The Obama administration dropped a skill-based system for selecting and hiring air traffic controllers (ATCs), and replaced it with a new system designed to favor applicants on the basis of their race. It makes no sense. Worse yet, it is illegal and unconstitutional. The FAA purged its system of thousands of previously-qualified, ready-to-hire applicants simply because they did not fit the right biographical profile. The government endangered public safety and owes restitution for this grave injustice.

After months of speculation and sky-high conspiracy theories, the mystery around those mysterious drones has finally been grounded. Sort of. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt relayed a message “directly” from President Donald Trump during her first press briefing on Tuesday, Jan. 28, addressing the drones that have been seen over the tri-state since late last year. “After research and study, the drones that were flying over New Jersey in large numbers were authorized by the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) for research and various other reasons,” Leavitt quoted Trump as saying. “Many of these drones were also hobbyist, recreational, and...

A desperate search for survivors is underway after a military helicopter collided mid-air with a commercial plane near Reagan National Airport in Virginia Wednesday night. Flight 5342, a PSA Airlines Bombardier CRJ700 regional jet operating for American Airlines and traveling from Wichita, Kan., collided with the military chopper while approaching Runaway 33 at the Washington airport around 9 p.m., according to the Federal Aviation Administration. “I have called over to my counterparts at the White House, and I can confirm that President Trump has been made aware of this situation,” Press secretary Karoline Leavitt told Fox News’ Sean Hannity.

There was an official statement about the New Jersey Drones from the White House today. They say they were indeed FAA approved and done for research. Do we believe this? Do we like the statement made?

The US has grounded SpaceX's giant Starship rocket while an investigation is carried out into why one exploded during its latest test flight. The rocket's upper stage dramatically broke up and disintegrated over the Caribbean after launching from Texas on Thursday, forcing airline flights to alter course to avoid falling debris. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said it was working with SpaceX and other authorities to confirm reports of property damage on the Turks and Caicos Islands. There were no reports of injuries. Elon Musk's company has been told to carry out a "mishap" investigation by the regulator, which will...

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported that an aircraft was damaged by a drone Thursday while fighting the deadly Palisades fire in Los Angeles. “Fire officials informed the FAA that a firefighting aircraft struck a drone while it was operating over the Palisades Fire in Los Angeles on Thursday, Jan. 9,” the agency issued in a statement. “The aircraft landed safely. The FAA will investigate,” the agency added. Officials have implemented several Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs) in the area and have warned citizens of the danger aircrafts can pose while circulating wildfires. The FAA said unauthorized air activity during the...

A "technical issue" disrupted American Airlines flights nationwide early on Tuesday, the airline said, at the start of a busy Christmas Eve for travelers around the country. The Federal Aviation Administration said American requested a ground stop for all its flights. "We're currently experiencing a technical issue with all American Airlines flights," the airline wrote in a post to X. The post added, "Your safety is our utmost priority, once this is rectified, we'll have you safely on your way to your destination." Replying to questions from other social media users, the airline said it was not able to estimate...

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on Thursday temporarily banned unmanned drones from flying over parts of New Jersey without special permission from the government, which will remain in effect through January 17.Mysterious uncrewed drone sightings have been a frequent theme in New Jersey over the past month, and federal agencies have not been able to explain some of the reports. But the FBI, Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and Pentagon have repeatedly assured Americans that the drones do not pose a threat to American safety. The FAA said that the drone restrictions began on Wednesday, and include the areas of Bridgewater,...

The Federal Aviation Administration has temporarily banned drone operations over parts of New Jersey until mid-January and warned that the government may respond with “deadly force” against drones that pose a threat. Beginning on Wednesday and through Jan. 17, unmanned aircraft are barred from flying within a nautical mile of specified airspace outlined in an FAA Notice to Airmen, or NOTAM. The government may use “deadly force” against the drones if they present an “imminent security threat,” the NOTAM said.
