FAA temporarily bans drone operations in parts of New Jersey amid security concerns

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on Thursday temporarily banned unmanned drones from flying over parts of New Jersey without special permission from the government, which will remain in effect through January 17.

Mysterious uncrewed drone sightings have been a frequent theme in New Jersey over the past month, and federal agencies have not been able to explain some of the reports. But the FBI, Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and Pentagon have repeatedly assured Americans that the drones do not pose a threat to American safety.

The FAA said that the drone restrictions began on Wednesday, and include the areas of Bridgewater, Cedar Grove, North Brunswick, Camden, Gloucester City, Westampton, Edison, Sewaren, Jersey City, Elizabeth, Bayonne, Winslow, Burlington, and Kearny, among others.

"At the request of federal security partners, the FAA published 22 Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs) prohibiting drone flights over critical New Jersey infrastructure," the FAA said in a statement reported by ABC News.

The DHS said the restrictions were ordered out of an abundance of caution and were not related to a specific threat.

"We continue to assess there is no public safety threat relating to the reported drone sightings," the department said in a statement. "In coordination with the FAA and our critical infrastructure partners who requested temporary flight restrictions over their facilities, out of an abundance of caution, the FAA has issued temporary flight restrictions over some critical infrastructure facilities in New Jersey."

The temporary flight restrictions that are already in place for Bedminster and Picatinny Arsenal will remain.

The government said it may use "deadly force" on the drones if operators violate the ban and pose an "imminent security threat." Operators who do violate the order could also be "intercepted, detained, and interviewed by the law enforcement/security personnel," and face civil penalties or even have their licenses revoked or...

Drones over 250 grams must be registered with the FAA and have a transponder that broadcasts a boatload of identification/operational info.

If the drones are legal and broadcasting their RID, the feds know everything about them and is lying when they say that they don’t.

If the drones are not broadcasting their RID then the feds are lying when they say the drones are operating legally and there is nothing to worry about.

Just be careful with that. While I believe there is a real story at the center of all the current information chaos, so many people are now misidentifying mundane aircraft as “drones” that it’s becoming impossible to tell the signal from the noise. Case in point: The New York Post printed a story about the drone situation today. Their “Exhibit A” was a series of photos of alleged “drones.” It took me about two seconds to see that every one of them was a photo of a helicopter or an airplane. The helicopter was clearly visible, illuminated by its navigation lights and strobes. You could see the tail boom, tail rotor, and the skids. The other aircraft was even more ridiculous. It was an American Airlines 737! The American logo was plain as day, lit up by the logo lights.

Average people are notoriously unreliable at identifying things flying over them, especially at night. The “news” media should at least stop automatically accepting every photo of lights in the sky as a “drone.” It’s getting embarrassing, and I would bet that at least 90% of what people are now calling “drones” are just normal aircraft.

So, if anyone is thinking about shooting at these “drones”, you’re likely to end up in jail for shooting at an airliner, police helicopter, etc. We’re already seeing a wave of people on the ground trying to use their green lasers to attack “drones” and nearly blinding GA pilots and airline flight crews in the process.

Idiots.

Here’s the deal, 99 percent of the population just raised their eyes from their cellphones and looked up at the night sky.

OMG, I SEE LIGHTS

Yeah, 98 % are planes, planets star misinterpreting of known objects.

UFO/UAP sightings are in there, just like our drones looking for them.

Same as its always been.

Stupid earthlings

The car-sized drones that we are talking about fly at thousands of feet. Have to use a rifle, not a shotgun, and thirty caliber rifle rounds, for instance, have a range of about seven miles.

You probably have a better chance of killing somebody on the ground with your irresponsible shot than killing one of those drones.

Another dumb ass response as expected from useless fxcking idiots. Did I not say a couple hundred feet over my home several times? Did I not state FAA regulations?

Read moron and anything flying that close to my house I will shoot. I’m not concerned with consequences I’m concerned with privacy and invasion there of and the threat involved.

I’m guessing you’re one of those idiots that would let someone rape your wife in your home and say I called the authorities instead of being a man and doing the responsible thing.

FR his becoming a website of useless fxcking idiots instead of real patriotic Americans. Show up to my house unexpected and you’ll be met by several guns at you’re useless head because I’ll be warned by like minded patriotic Americans you’re headed my way.

Grow a pair Fxcktard

Just heard on Newsmax - Bob Finnerty - that the FAA has just been proven hopeless and helpless because the ‘drones’ are flying over FAA banned NJ airspace.

Good to hear. Now the people in NJ can have a quiet night without a bunch of drones flying around.

It’s obvious that some FR plank holders have become worthless POS.

So I was right about the wife thing. You’d let your wife be raped rather than do something about it.

Disgusting..
