Former Vice President Al Gore said on Sunday that climate change deniers were the same as the Uvalde, Texas law enforcement men and women who did nothing as school children were being slaughtered under their watch. "Climate deniers are really in some ways similar to all of those almost 400 law enforcement officers in Uvalde, Texas, who were waiting outside an unlocked door while the children were being massacred," said Gore. The remarks were released as part of a pre-recorded segment of NBC's "Meet the Press." The failed presidential candidate continued, "And confronted with this global emergency, what we're doing...

January 11, 1994 The Superhighway Summit is held at UCLA's Royce Hall. It was the "first public conference bringing together all of the major industry, government and academic leaders in the field [and] also began the national dialogue about the Information Superhighway and its implications." The conference was organized by Richard Frank of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and Jeffrey Cole and Geoffrey Cowan, the former co-directors of UCLA's Center for Communication Policy. The keynote speaker was Vice President Al Gore who said: "We have a dream for…an information superhighway that can save lives, create jobs and give...

A resolution urging that the state Capitol Commission erect a statue on the Capitol grounds in honor of former Democratic Vice President Al Gore for winning the Nobel Peace Prize failed on the Senate floor today. The resolution, which also urged a statue be erected for Nobel Peace Prize winner Cordell Hull, failed on a 15-14 vote with most Republicans voting no. It needed 17 votes to pass. Earlier, the sponsor, Sen. Andy Berke, D-Chattanooga, said the measure had “broad bipartisan support in the House.” In the Senate, Sen. Ken Yager, R-Harriman, removed an amendment he had previously attached to...

Al Gore is at it again. The former Vice-President and environmental activist is set to release "Our Choice," a follow-up to his bestselling book and movie "An Inconvenient Truth," which will outline how to combat the global warming crisis. "Our Choice" will describe how the world can fight climate change by cutting down on energy and water use and decreasing waste output into the environment, Gore's camp announced in a statement. It will also outline policies that President Barack Obama's administration should put into effect in order to sustain life on Earth. Gore won the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize for...

Britain Battered Ahead Of Big Freeze Updated:18:22, Thursday January 31, 2008 Police are urging motorists to be on their guard tonight as fierce winds continue to batter the country with snow and blizzards set to follow. Drivers have been told avoid the M6 motorway in Cumbria altogether after a lorry driver was killed when his truck was blown over. The 45-year-old man died when his HGV was swept into the central reservation near to junction 38 of the motorway in Tebay, Cumbria. In today's complicated world, precious few truly black and white, cut and dry issues remain. For me, however, there are at least two: Al Gore really is a dislikeable [expletive deleted] — and the destruction of the Earth by human hands would be an incredibly bad thing. Within a rational environment, these two ideas could be compatible. Sadly, our political and cultural climates aren't ruled by anything close to reason or rational thinking. This spring, filmmaker Davis Guggenheim unveiled "An Inconvenient Truth," a documentary following former Vice President Gore's campaign to bring about worldwide awareness of global climate change. The...

WASHINGTON - The nation's top climate scientists are giving "An Inconvenient Truth," Al Gore's documentary on global warming, five stars for accuracy. The former vice president's movie — replete with the prospect of a flooded New York City, an inundated Florida, more and nastier hurricanes, worsening droughts, retreating glaciers and disappearing ice sheets — mostly got the science right, said all 19 climate scientists who had seen the movie or read the book and answered questions from The Associated Press. The AP contacted more than 100 top climate researchers by e-mail and phone for their opinion. Among those contacted were...

Former US Vice President Al Gore poses with the Davis Guggenheim, the director of the film "A Inconvenient Truth", which Gore helped make. Six years after barely losing the most contested presidential race in recent US history, Gore has ridden a popular new film on global climate change to the center of American politics

Al Gore has made his sharpest attack yet on the George Bush presidency, describing the current US administration as "a renegade band of rightwing extremists". In an interview with the Guardian today, the former vice-president calls himself a "recovering politician", but launches into the political fray more explicitly than he has previously done during his high-profile campaigning on the threat of global warming. Denying that his politics have shifted to the left since he lost the court battle for the 2000 election, Mr Gore says: "If you have a renegade band of rightwing extremists who get hold of power, the...

May 26, 2006, 6:58 a.m.The New Al GoreSame old. By Rich Lowry The global-warming documentary An Inconvenient Truth supposedly raises the curtain on the new Al Gore. And it does, in the sense that it’s not possible to have a nearly two-hour feature film devoted to lionizing you and your views without sprucing up your image. If nothing else, Gore’s dogged devotion to his cause—raising the alarm on global warming—is admirable. But the Al Gore of An Inconvenient Truth, which is built around his PowerPoint presentation on the topic, isn’t really that new. There is the same earnestness. The...

"...But Mr Gore, fresh from an appearance at the Cannes film festival, delivered a starker message that the world was now facing a "danger which could bring the end of civilisation."

The speed of the new consensus is perhaps the most remarkable thing about it. All it took was a new movie on global warming, fresh doubts about Hillary, and a growing desire to expunge George W Bush from the national memory banks . . . and suddenly Al Gore is anointed by the chattering classes as the next Democratic nominee. Al Gore? Yep. The man who, after eight years of peace and prosperity as vice-president, couldn’t manage to persuade Americans to continue the Clinton legacy with a president who could keep his trousers on. The man who sighed and huffed...

John Lennon once wrote that "All you need is love." If that's the case, former presidential candidate Al Gore is a happy man. He is in the middle of a media lovefest celebrating his work, his career - even his efforts as actor, author, dancer and comedian. The former vice president has both a movie and a book about global warming debuting under the title "An Inconvenient Truth." He has gone from media darling to "the summer's most unlikely movie star," as NBC's Katie Couric called him in a May 24 interview. Gore, who Couric also called "funny, vulnerable, disarming,...

"The most vulnerable part of the Earth's environment is the very thin layer of air clinging near to the surface of the planet, that we are now so carelessly filling with gaseous wastes that we are actually altering the relationship between the Earth and the Sun - by trapping more solar radiation under this growing blanket of pollution that envelops the entire world," Vice President Gore told the U.N. Global Warming conference of 159 nations this morning in Koyto, Japan. In what was one the most dramatic speeches in recent memory, Gore announced to world leaders: "Whether we recognize it...

TODAY "An Inconvenient Truth," Al Gore's movie about the greenhouse effect, opens in New York and California. Many who already believe global warming is a menace will flock to the film; many who scoff at the notion will opt for Tom Cruise or Tom Hanks. But has anything happened in recent years that should cause a reasonable person to switch sides in the global-warming debate? Yes: the science has changed from ambiguous to near-unanimous. As an environmental commentator, I have a long record of opposing alarmism. But based on the data I'm now switching sides regarding global warming, from skeptic...

As we look toward 2008, it is obvious Republicans would like to see their GOP nominee triumph. Democrats clearly want one of their own in the White House. But there are many who want to see ABH – "anybody but Hillary" – get elected. The former first lady's unique brand of transparently phony moderation, heartfelt inner socialism, Nixonian disregard for the norms of civilized politics and governance, and her well-documented tin ear on ethical issues make her the most dangerous aspirant for president since George Wallace (and he never had a chance of winning). The more John McCain runs and...

GROUP: New Video Exposes Behind-the-Scenes Story of Gore’s Own Energy Use Wed May 24 2006 17:59:00 ET As former Vice President Al Gore’s documentary on global warming fears debuts today, a new video from the Competitive Enterprise Institute tracks Gore’s own “carbon footprint.” CEI’s 70-second video points out that Gore himself is a big user of the hydrocarbon fuels that produce carbon dioxide when combusted. Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth” asks, "Are you willing to change the way you live?" The Gore documentary and new book of the same name go on to suggest ways that people can reduce their...
