The suicide of Alan Krueger, a former Obama and Clinton adviser who killed himself this weekend, has shocked the worlds of politics and business where he was universally revered. Krueger, 58, had a new book coming out in June and was still a member of faculty at Princeton University in New Jersey. He lived at home with his wife Lisa, with whom he has two children, Benjamin, 28, and Sydney, 26. He is survived by them, his elderly parents and siblings. The family confirmed that he killed himself in a statement that was released by Princeton on Monday but no...

Larry Kudlow is the leading contender to head President Donald Trump's National Economic Council and would take the job if offered it, CNBC's Jim Cramer reported Monday. Trump has not formally offered the job, but Kudlow is a leading choice of not only Trump but also some of his advisors to replace Gary Cohn as the president's top economic advisor. A White House official confirmed Kudlow is on the list of candidates but said the administration did not have personnel announcements to make. Kudlow declined to comment. Kudlow, a CNBC senior contributor and longtime on-air personality, helped to craft economic...

If you're a conservative, then you probably have no love for Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner. He wanted to end the Bush tax cuts for the rich in 2010. You might think his foreclosure prevention plan was a mess. But if you're a progressive, then you probably don't love the guy either. He wasn't particularly aggressive in pursuing cramdowns or principal reductions for struggling homeowners. He also doesn't tend to be too hard on the banks. So who does like Geithner? President Obama must -- he worked to ensure that Geithner wouldn't resign earlier this year when his family moved back...

Reporting from San Francisco - A prominent Silicon Valley executive with ties to the Obama administration has admitted to an extramarital affair after his former mistress plastered romantic pictures of the two of them on giant billboards in three major cities. "I had an 8½-year serious relationship with YaVaughnie Wilkins," said Charles E. Phillips, co-president of Oracle Corp. and a member of President Obama's Economic Recovery Advisory Board. "The relationship with Ms. Wilkins has since ended, and we both wish each other well." Wilkins, a writer and actress, this week had a three-story-tall sign put up near Times Square in...

PRINCETON, N.J. (AP) - A Princeton economics professor and former presidential adviser lay in critical condition after being burned while carrying a blazing Christmas tree from his home. David Bradford, who served as a top economic adviser to former President Bush, suffered third-degree burns over half his body early Tuesday, police said. He was being treated at a hospital in Philadelphia. The fire was caused by one of about 10 lit candles on the tree, which had been in the house since December, police said. Bradford was a member of the President's Council of Economic Advisers from 1991 to 1993.
  • Bush to Change Economic Team

President Bush plans to overhaul his economic team for the second time in two years and wants to tap prominent figures outside the administration to help sell rewrites of Social Security and the tax laws to Congress and the country, White House aides and advisers said over the weekend. The aides said the replacement of four of the five top economic officials -- including the Treasury and Commerce secretaries, with only budget director Joshua B. Bolten likely to remain -- is part of Bush's preparation for sending Congress an ambitious second-term domestic agenda.
