Maybe their face is glistening with sweat — on a cold, wintry night. Or they can’t stop licking their lips. Perhaps they’re chattering nonstop, or not speaking much at all. These and other traits could be simple holiday stress — or they might be signs of drug use, according to experts. And drugs that are combined with alcohol at holiday gatherings can be particularly risky. “With alcohol, any of the depressants, any opiates, any barbiturates or benzodiazepines, can be very dangerous,” Emily Skogrand, clinical pharmacist at Oregon Health and Science University, told The Post.

I took my weekly trip to San Diego this week. This is something I have done for more than a decade, just to get a change of scenery, look at the ocean take in a ballgame and just relax for a short spell…it’s a manageable drive from where I live, in a state without an ocean. I have, over the years, noticed a degradation in San Diego, mostly downtown, but the obvious destruction and malaise in California, while present, was actually somewhat muted in the once fair and relatively conservative city of San Diego. But this week I witnessed things...

Actor Matthew McConaughey announced on Sunday that he will not run to be the next governor of Texas, a decision that came despite a push from left-wing media for the actor to challenge Republican Governor Greg Abbott.McConaughey, 52, had previously called for law-abiding citizens to “take one for the team” and give up some of their Second Amendment rights, and he had praised far-left Democrat Beto O’Rourke, calling him a “good man.” McConaughey also said that he had a problem with a recent Texas law that protects unborn babies.“Listen, over the past two years, I’ve been working on the answer...

As reported by the LA Times, according to data recently released by the Department of Finance, CaliforniaÂ’s population growth rate for the year ending July 1, 2019, was the lowest the state has experienced since 1900. Estimates indicate the Golden StateÂ’s population grew by 0.35 percent over the course of the year (or by 141,000 people), down from 0.57 percent for the previous year ending July 1, 2018. CaliforniaÂ’s growth in population was buoyed by the net difference between births and deaths in the state, which amounted to 180,800 people. However, this number was tempered by net losses in migration,...

A school board candidate in Northern Virginia may have lost the election, but she’s not giving up the fight to protect children in her district. In a Facebook post, Fairfax County School Board candidate Priscilla DeStefano warned parents in the district that children as young as 6th grade would begin receiving graphic, highly inappropriate surveys on sexual activity, drug use, and more unless they take the time to opt out. https://www.facebook.com/PriscillaForFairfax/photos/a.111043596987758/120923609333090/ “We must be vigilant about what is going on in our schools,” DeStefano wrote. “I may have lost, but the fight is not over!!” “Starting this week, 6th, 8th,...

The group of Florida teens who filmed and laughed at a drowning man will face charges for not reporting his death, according to officials. Authorities initially said there didn’t appear to be grounds to prosecute the teens caught on camera mocking 32-year-old Jamel Dunn as he drowned in Cocoa, Florida. 'Oh, he just died': Teens mock drowning man in disturbing video 'Oh, he just died': Teens mock drowning man in disturbing video None of the teens called 911 for help during the July 9 incident, but state law does not require a witness to help a person in need. However,...

my prediction is that when trump wins and he will, our current government employees (not workers) will revolt and shut down basic functions of our government in protest either outwardly or inwardly. are we prepared for that? Outline is: no government checks issued FRepers on SS save your money. all federal recipients revolt. press helps create ensuing chaos. national guard called out. mass riots dogs and cats. obama takes control. president elect is assassinated obama runs another 8 years. at 1:44 am this can easily be deleted by admins and you should but it is food for thot.

Barack Obama stands apart from other modern American Presidents in many ways. In addition to the obvious bi-racial background, he is the only President to win the Nobel Peace Prize in his first term, and the only one ever designated Advertising Age’s Marketer of the Year. Beyond such specific achievements is his ineffable appeal, the widespread view that he is the coolest President ever. This supernal coolness is not new. In his autobiography, Dreams From My Father, the President wrote that in his teenage years “I tried my best to be cool at all times” (p. 82). However, leaving aside...

NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said that the alliance still considered Crimea a territory of Ukraine and urged Russia to give the territory back. "All NATO allies made clear that we condemn the illegal and illegitimate annexation of Crimea and that the allies will not recognize it," he said at a press conference in Brussels on Tuesday.

The old folks are showing the kids these days how it's done. That is, people over 50 are turning to drugs more so than their kids and grandkids. Drug use among people aged 50 to 64 has "doubled" over the past decade, according to the U.S. government. Of the 23.9 million Americans who are current drug users, 7.2 percent of people between 50 and 64 years old reported using illicit drugs -- which is still less than the nearly 10 percent of "children and teenagers" who use illegal drugs, according to an annual survey of drug use. The most-popular drug...

Lately, the media has been beating up on Barack Obama for not giving them enough love and attention. Out of frustration, the media didn’t heckle or taunt Obama like they did Romney in Poland, but the message was sent and, just a few minutes ago, Obama surprised everyone in the White House Briefing Room with an unscheduled press conference. This was brilliant timing on the president's part. All last week the Romney campaign was on offense and Obama was dealing with Vice President Race-Baiter and a campaign that had gotten so vicious it had finally backfired. But with the media...

Shorter University in Rome, Ga., is requiring its employees to certify that they are not gay as a condition of employment. All 200 employees of the Baptist university, located about 65 miles northwest of Atlanta, received a "personal lifestyle statement" last Wednesday, which they must sign or risk being fired. Employees must pledge to be "active members of a local church" and to abstain from, among other things, drug use, premarital sex and homosexual behavior. "I reject as acceptable all sexual activity not in agreement with the Bible, including, but not limited to, premarital sex, adultery and homosexuality," the statement...

The number of babies treated at Florida hospitals for drug-withdrawal syndrome continued to skyrocket last year, further evidence of the far-reaching impact of the state's prescription-drug epidemic. In 2010, 1,374 babies were born addicted to drugs because their mothers were users — a 42 percent increase from the year prior, according to new Agency for Health Care Administration records obtained by the Orlando Sentinel. "The numbers are staggering," said Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi. "And especially when you have the opportunity to see one of these babies and know what the baby goes through, all they suffer." "It's unreal," she...

A chemistry teacher is accused of helping her teenage students get high. Police Sergeant Ray Fong says 34-year-old Livingston High School teacher Japhia Huhndorf, helped three male students, ages 16, 17, and 18, as they ingested the powerful chemical chloroform. Livingston is about 15 miles south of Modesto. “She either showed them how to do it or she poured it on a cloth for them to inhale,” Sgt. Fong says. In an exclusive interview, one of the victims admitted the allegations were true to FOX40. “She (Huhndorf) knew about it, but she wasn’t encouraging us to get high … it...

FRANKFORT — A state lawmaker wants random drug testing of adult Kentuckians who receive food stamps, Medicaid or other state assistance. Those who fail the test would lose their benefits under House Bill 208, filed by Rep. Lonnie Napier, R-Lancaster. Napier's proposal has won the backing of powerful House Speaker Greg Stumbo, D-Prestonsburg, but critics say it would stigmatize welfare recipients and possibly harm their innocent children. "I'm not a hard-hearted guy," said Napier. "I believe there is a need for public assistance for those who need it, but I understand some are using these funds to buy drugs." Napier...

Just Say No Smoking Malcolm A. Kline, December 16, 2009 On Monday the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) gave us some good and bad news. “The report says cigarette smoking was at the lowest point in the survey’s history on all measures for eighth, 10th and 12th graders,” NIDA reported on December 14, 2009. ‘For example, only 2.7 percent of eighth graders describe themselves as daily smokers, down from a peak rate of 10.4 percent in 1996.” “Similarly, 11.2 percent of high school seniors say they smoke daily, less than half of the 24.6 percent rate in 1997.” The...

RIVERTON — Tie dye, tee-pees, and cries for free love and world peace. If it sounds like an image of the 1960s, residents near Pinedale may believe they've traveled back in time next week when a large band of "hippies" hold their annual gathering at a national forest near Pinedale. Federal officials began arriving in Riverton earlier this month to prepare for the arrival of the group, which calls itself the Rainbow Family of Living Light. Anywhere between several hundred to a few thousand members of the group are expected, and their arrival has already drawn the ire of some...

CHICAGO (AP) -- American children take anti-psychotic medicines at about six times the rate of children in the United Kingdom, according to a comparison based on a new U.K. study. Side effects including weight gain and heart trouble have been reported in children using anti-psychotic drugs. Does it mean U.S. kids are being over-treated? Or that U.K. children are being under-treated? Experts say that's almost beside the point, because use is rising on both sides of the Atlantic. And with scant long-term safety data, it's likely the drugs are being over-prescribed for both U.S. and U.K. children, research suggests. Among...
