  • Ontario introducing gender-neutral driver's licences, health cards ['Able to select X']

    06/30/2016 6:06:47 AM PDT · by Colofornian · 19 replies
Ontario is introducing gender-neutral driver's licences and health cards. Beginning in early 2017, drivers will be able to select X, instead of an M for male or F for female for their licences. And this month, the province started issuing health cards that no longer display information about a person's sex on the front of the card. People who want a new health card without the sex identifier before their regular renewal date can obtain one immediately through ServiceOntario at no cost. The Liberal government says it is making these changes "to ensure the fair, ethical and equitable treatment of...

Call it sanctuary on wheels: San Francisco is about to give a big break to people, many of them illegal immigrants, who are caught driving without a license. Beginning Sunday, cops will no longer impound cars the first time drivers are pulled over without a license. The reason: Many such drivers are in the United States illegally - and thus unable to get a license - and the officials pushing the change think that impounding their cars is an unfair hardship.

New York State and the Bush administration agreed to a deal giving illegal aliens driver's licences in New York State. New York State made an agreement with the Department of Homeland Security creating a three tier licensing system. The third type of license will be for illegal aliens. New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer proposed a plan last month where illegal aliens would get driver's licenses and was attacked by Congressman Tom Tancredo. Tancredo said, " Gov. Spitzer's treacherous proposal to give driver's licenses to illegal aliens exposes all Americans. One would think that after 9/11 our leaders would work for...

New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer is preparing to announce a new policy that will enable illegal aliens to obtain a driver's license. The state's Department of Motor Vehicles no longer will require applicants to provide Social Security numbers or proof they're eligible for Social Security cards, the New York Post and New York Sun reported. Under the new rules, valid foreign passports, previous state driver's licenses and other verifiable proofs of ID will be considered on a point-based system, according to a source who spoke to the Post. "The DMV does not believe it's in the business checking a person's...

As if to add insult to injury, it was reported after 9/11 that some of the hijackers had obtained state issued drivers licenses. When I first heard the news, I could hardly believe it. Not only did the terrorists kill hundreds of people, but they mocked our lax security to boot. The problem is not with the licenses themselves, but that they are considered a legal document in which to open a bank account, rent a car, and yes, get on an airplane and take it over. The same type of problem can be found with your Social Security number....

Salt Lake City -- The Utah Senate voted Friday to take driver's licenses away from people who cannot prove they are legal U.S. residents and issue them a driving "privilege" card instead. Lawmakers voted 18-8 to approve the measure, which goes next to the House. Gov. Jon Huntsman said Friday that he would support it. Senators said they were alarmed by an investigation that found 58,000 undocumented workers had Utah driver's licenses and that some non-citizens were able to use the licenses to register to vote and cast ballots at the polls. "It's scary, being taken advantage of," Republican state...

SACRAMENTO -- Illegal immigrants who submit to extensive background checks could apply for California driver's licenses under a new bill unveiled Tuesday, but Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and others likely will oppose it as lacking adequate safeguards. Sen. Gil Cedillo, D-Los Angeles, said his legislation addresses security concerns expressed by Schwarzenegger when he pushed for the repeal of Cedillo's previous law, SB 60, which gave licenses to illegal immigrants without checking their backgrounds first. "I think that finally we have a solution and a resolution of an ongoing issue that's confronted us for a decade," Cedillo said. But Schwarzenegger's office said...
  • Repeal of Illegal Alien Driver’s License Law Represents a Change in Tactics, Not a Change of Heart

Action by the California legislature to repeal the illegal alien driver’s license law it passed last summer is a tactical move designed to thwart a voter initiative to bar illegal aliens from obtaining licenses, charges the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR). The repeal of SB 60 by the Senate and the anticipated repeal by the Assembly is a clear effort to stop the voters from having their say, rather than an effort to stop illegal aliens from acquiring California driver’s licenses. Senator Gil Cedillo, the primary sponsor of SB 60, has vowed to reintroduce the legislation with some cosmetic...

Illegal immigrants are suing the state of Iowa. They want to be able to drive legally. The lawsuit, filed in Polk County, alleges that banning illegal immigrants from obtaining a drivers' license is unconstitutional. It further suggests that illegal immigrants are driving anyway and their lack of training could put other drivers in harms way. Both the Attorney Generals Office and the Department of Transportation are named as defendants in the suit. Both agencies vow to fight the lawsuit.

We have opened this website because of the imminent danger to the implementation of Senate Bill 60, which permits all eligible applicants, irrespective of their immigration status, to obtain a California driver's license or identification card. Governor-elect Arnold Schwarzenegger has made repeated declarations that he intends on repealing SB60 upon assuming his position of governor on November 15, 2003, even though he is obligated by his sworn duty to uphold the laws of the state. (see article in LA Times, date) Additionally, the California Republican Assembly, an organization of conservative Republicans, is presently circulating a petition to place a ballot...

Driver's License Test for Schwarzenegger How he deals with the controversial law could determine whether divisive politicking returns. By Frank del Olmo Now that the recall has succeeded, the new California law allowing illegal immigrants to get driver's licenses will provide one of the first doses of political reality that Gov.-elect Arnold Schwarzenegger must face. How he handles it could determine whether his administration gets along well with the state's emerging majority or stumbles onto the same slippery slope of divisive ethnic politics that poisoned his mentor Pete Wilson's relations with Latinos. Schwarzenegger needs to rethink his opposition to the...

Gray Davis has betrayed his previous stands by quietly announcing his support for a controversial bill enabling many illegal aliens to obtain driver's licenses.
