MAPA's SAVE Driver's licences for illegal aliens
savesb60.com ^ | today | Mexican American Political Association

Posted on 11/15/2003 12:11:23 PM PST by VU4G10

We have opened this website because of the imminent danger to the implementation of Senate Bill 60, which permits all eligible applicants, irrespective of their immigration status, to obtain a California driver's license or identification card. Governor-elect Arnold Schwarzenegger has made repeated declarations that he intends on repealing SB60 upon assuming his position of governor on November 15, 2003, even though he is obligated by his sworn duty to uphold the laws of the state. (see article in LA Times, date)

Additionally, the California Republican Assembly, an organization of conservative Republicans, is presently circulating a petition to place a ballot referendum to repeal SB60 on the ballot for the March 2004 elections.

The Latino and immigrant communities of California are being attacked from two sides. Just when we thought that the divisive and hateful anti-immigrant period of California was receding into the trash bin of history, we find renewed attacks with similar virulent nastiness mounted against our community.

The California Republican Assembly has opened a website called - SaveOurLicenses.com. Check it out. Get informed on how they are attacking our community. Check out their plans to repeal SB60. They have until December 7, 2003 to qualify their ballot initiative. They must collect 375,000 eligible signatures and submit their petitions to the California Secretary of State to qualify for ballot status in March 2004. According to their webpage, they need to collect some 500,000 signatures, if not more, before the deadline. They claim to have mailed out 250,000 petitions, in league with other right-wing groups, to individuals interested in assisting in their cause. It is now a race against the clock.

SEND YOUR LETTER TO GOVERNOR-ELECT ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER TODAY.

Enclosed is an Internet-letter for you to send to Governor-Elect Arnold Schwarzenegger before he formally takes office on November 15, 2003. Join thousands of others in sending a message to Arnold. Our goal is for Gov. Arnold to receive 100,000 letters before he is sworn into office.

WHO IS THE CALIFORNIA REPUBLICAN ASSEMBLY?

You need to know who is behind this attack against the Latino and immigrant communities of California. What do they want? Who supports them financially? Who are their leaders? What did they have to do with Proposition 187?

WHO IS KFI RADIO AND THE JOHN AND KEN SHOW?

You can get an awful earful of anti-immigrant hate when you listen to "The John and Ken Show," KFI Radio (630 AM), not the hour, but the radio dial frequency, any day of the week. Certainly, this is not an advertisement to support this venom, but for you to be aware of the evil that lurks within our midst to turn heads against our community. The SaveOurLicenses.com website brags about the "success" they had with the "KFI Radio Remote Signing Event" directed by the shock jocks, John and Ken, broadcasting on the air at a signature gathering event in Seal Beach where they claim to have collected some 2,000 signatures. This is the right-wing on radio organizing Californians against their fellow residents and citizens.

Find out more about these right-wing shock-jocks and how they are organizing against Latinos and immigrants. Find out which advertisers support this type of hate and venom.

Who We Are.
SAVE SB 60 / Citizens for Public and Passenger Safety is a grassroots project of the Mexican American Political Association (MAPA) to stop the political right-wing of California from repealing SB60, and continuing their attacks against Latinos and all immigrants. MAPA is a membership organization of chapters throughout California. We are not afraid of the right-wing. Are you? Find out how you can help your community make California a place where we can all just get along.

CONTRIBUTE TO MAKING CALIFORNIA A SAFE PLACE TO DRIVE AND LIVE.
If you are able, please make a financial contribution to help us make California a safe place to drive and live, stop racism and discrimination, and stop the attacks against our community. You can donate securely online, or download a form and mail us your contribution. We truly appreciate your help. Only with your help can we enjoy a safer California.

Sorry to piggy back BUT

Illinois has a real battle going to!!

State Senators Dave Sullivan (R-33rd District) and Rick Winkel (R-52nd District) joined with 27 Democrats and voted YES on SB67 last Thursday, November 6, 2003. The controversial bill which would require the State of Illinois to issue Driver's Licenses to illegal aliens fell just one vote short of the 30 votes necessary for passage in the State Senate. However, SB67 will come up again for reconsideration on Tuesday, November 18, and two Democrat supporters of the bill who were absent the first time will be present to add their YES votes to the total!

Clearly, our best (and only) chance to stop passage of this bill is to kill it in the senate. And to do that, minds must be changed.

Please contact Senators Sullivan and Winkel and urge them to VOTE NO on SB67!

We must ACT NOW for our voice to be heard!

Apparently, the Mexican American Political Association only wants "laws" that facilitate their "community" breaking and ignoring other "laws". This same political philosophy has made Mexico the thriving example of economic and social success that we see today.

Laws? We doan need no stinking laws! On a more serious note, the guy has a point about ending discrimination. Illegal aliens should be punished with the full measure of the law even if they are are Hispanic....

The answer to the need to comply with the law is to issue illegal aliens the drivers license that is clearly marked "NON-CITIZEN", All U.S. citizens' licenses should say "CITIZEN OF THE UNITED STATES"

Even if California rescinds SB60, there are still several states rewarding illegal aliens this way. It will be up to Congress to write national legislation that prevents irresponsible state legislators from handing out licenses like candy.

Well, if that's how you feel, MAPA, let's have a little discussion about Proposition 187 which was voted in by referendum according to the laws of the state.

It was repealed and not necessily by legal means.

Then again, the whole concept of the word "legal" escapes you folks completely, doesn't it?

> ... stop racism and discrimination, ...

We don't care WHAT race you are. How dare you suggest we're racist.
There are illegal aliens from countries all over the world, and of every race. We're just fighting for our sovereignty. If you don't believe we have that right, then you are an enemy of this country.

We don't care if you're from Sweden, India, Columbia, or MARS, but if you are here illegally, we want you gone. Go back, do the paperwork, and get in line. Being in this country (not to mention being a citizen) is not a RIGHT...it is an honor we can bestow upon you if you show good faith. We have enough criminals here. If the first act you do here is to violate a basic law (sovereignty) then what do you expect us to think of you.

> hateful anti-immigrant...

What part of "ILLEGAL" don't you understand? Why do you try to LUMP "illegal alien" issues (as this issue is) with "immigrant" issues (legal immigration, as opposed to criminally invading a sovereign nation)? Why? Because you want to gather more people to your side, so that you can have the power to overrun our sovereignty. If you can get Legal immigrants, Hispanics, and other groups that are NOT part of this issue to think that we are against them, then you can gain their support in numbers. It's trecherous. The issue of ILLEGAL immigrants is just that...no more, no less. (There is also the issue of what levels of LEGAL immigration are beneficial to our country, but that is another issue, NOT the issue here.)
In fact, there are those that focus on the "terrorist" nature of this bad law...which has merit, and is what some people are focussing on with regards to this bad law...but to me, it is the fact that we are legitimizing these illegal criminal aliens, instead of deporting them immediately - treating them like they are part of this country, rather than trespassers who need to be punished & removed. I don't just want a stamp on my license that says "NON-CITIZEN" or ""CITIZEN" (as a poster suggests)...unless there are three stamps that say either: "CITIZEN", "LEGAL NON-CITIZEN", "ILLEGAL NON-CITIZEN"...then when somebody shows their "Illegal" license we can deport them immediately. But I'm being facetious there, of course, the driverse license is a document that we use for all sorts of legal and documentary proof and it can't be negated by it's issuance to illegals of all types.
And what's more:
WE CAN'T WAIT UNTIL MARCH!!!
We can't allow three months of illegal licenses to go out before we recall this law. We must take action that IMMEDIATELY kills this law, well before December 31st. We can't let this genie out of the bottle, because once done, our Driver's Licenses will have lost meaning. Then we will have the problem of creating a whole new identification that is actually worth something, and that would be both a huge expense and great headache for all of us. Let's not keep drawing the line further back, let's just say what is obvious: They shouldn't be here at all, period.
And don't tell me about how we need them. If the price of your lettuce goes up, okay, then you're back to the REAL price of lettuce. Let the illusions go away, and we'll go from there. At some price, I'LL go pick lettuce. At a lower price, some unskilled, unemployed person will pick lettuce. If that higher wage makes lettuce double or triple in price, then you just pay it. We are not socialists, and this is a free economy. Our economy will adjust and we will go forward. We don't need to pay for the welfare and health care for people who will not make the effort to beome "legal"...that is akin to pissing on us, especially on the legal immigrants, who have made that effort.
But don't call us "racists"...we have friends of all races, from all countries, of all skin colors. They just don't happen to be criminals.
"Sailor4321" has it right when he points out that it is discrimination to select out Hispanics to specifically NOT enforce under the law. Can we be done with discrimination, can we be done with racism, can we just be Californians who obey the law?

> The Latino and immigrant communities of California are being attacked...

No you're not. Not unless you're a criminal alien. Why do so many Latinos OPPOSE this law? Why was the opposition of this law seventy-something percent when Davis signed it against the will of the people.

> ... help your community make California a place where we can all just get along.

I'm trying. Support me in enforcing our existing sovereignty laws, punishing businesses that hire illegals, punishing then deporting the illegals themselves, making efforts that create a secure border, stopping efforts of those who show contempt for our sovereignty laws, and speaking up to those who falsely accuse people of being racist. We're tired of that old "racist" ploy, and people are standing up to that diversion and forcing you to confront the truth of the word "illegal" in the term "illegal alien".

But in the meantime - the LEAST we have to do is to STOP this law NOW.

Well put. And I would add so are the politicians who pander to these lawbreakers enemies of the country. If we don't throw them out of office we're going to lose it.

There is Federal legislation.  It falls under the heading of immigration law.  The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 should be repealed.  More to the point, the Executive Branch of the Federal Government, headed at the moment by G. W. Bush, is not enforcing immigration laws.  If there were no illegal immigrants, states could not issue licenses to them.
We do not need more Federal laws mucking with states rights.

Yes states rights is very important, but should an illegal alien with a New Mexico license board a plane then commit a terrorist act, Americans from many other states die. Irresponsible state legislators and governors are jeopardizing all of us, which is why it's a national issue.

This would all be moot if the federal government would close the borders and enforce the laws, but until they do, if ever I don't think we should be making life easier for illegal aliens.

The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 should be repealed.

Why would you want that law repealed? It contains employer sanctions which was supposed to discourage businesses from hiring illegals. If anything, I'd like to see it enforced, which is currently not happening.

So, these people are just trying to improve traffic safety?

Hmmmm, I wonder if they figured that the "improve traffic safety" claim might sound just a tad disingenuous.

Because of the fact that SB60 violates federal law by aiding and abetting illegal immigration, Schwarzenegger will be upholding federal law by repealing SB60.
