FRIENDSWOOD — Police arrested a private school teacher Thursday on charges that she had sex with a 17-year-old student along a deserted road in December. Jill Lewis, 26, of Dickinson, is being held in the Galveston County Jail on a $30,000 bond after she turned herself in to investigators Thursday, police said. Lewis is a journalism, speech and computer teacher at Living Stones Christian School in Alvin, the school’s Web site said. No one answered the phone at the school’s office late Thursday and efforts to reach the school’s principal for comment were unsuccessful. Friendswood Police Chief Bob Wieners said...

NEW BEDFORD - A convicted sex offender arrested this week on charges of raping a 6-year-old boy in the public library had been released from prison a year ago, despite the strenuous objections of the district attorney and three psychologists who argued that he posed a serious threat to children. Superior Court Judge Richard Moses denied the prosecutor's motion to keep Corey Saunders in custody indefinitely, arguing that he had a low IQ and had suffered physical and sexual abuse as a child. The judge said Saunders, who was sentenced to four years for the attempted rape of a 7-year-old...

Call her Rosie Inc. If Rosie O'Donnell was a business pitch right now, she'd be a win-win. The opinionated diva who quit her job as co-host of "The View" last week is a TV maestro who could mean big bucks for the next studio that signs her up, TV industry experts say. "She's the only talent I've ever worked with who thinks like a producer," said a former co-worker. As early as last winter, O'Donnell began holding talks with at least one major studio about producing a new talk show, according to industry sources. On her personal Web site Rosie...

A Democrat community leader who would "offer a homily during worship services" and facilitated his congregation's "opening our doors to all people regardless of sexual orientation" has been given a slap on the hand after pleading guilty to extensive child pornography offenses involving children as young as six. Authorities say Andrew Douglas Reed, 53, who reported for an abbreviated jail term just a few weeks ago, had pleaded guilty to a page-long list of counts of 2nd-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. Court records in the Asheville, N.C., case said he admitted that he would "record, develop and duplicate material...

The truth about 'gay' pedophiliahttp://worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=52330 http://tinyurl.com/n6tcp Posted: October 7, 2006 1:00 a.m. Eastern By Olivia St. John Liberals are experts at framing debates in their favor. Since the Foley fiasco hit the news, the emphasis has been on evils lurking within the Republican Party. Incredibly, political editor Brian E. Crowley of the Palm Beach Post opined, "Rumors that Foley is gay have swirled around him for years. … But on Friday, whether Foley was a homosexual or a heterosexual no longer seemed to matter." Really? Why would that be considered inconsequential? Could it be because the Democrat Party embraces legalizing...

The death of manlinesshttp://worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=52283 Posted: October 5, 2006 1:00 a.m. Eastern Mark Foley is a sick man in a sick culture. He apparently was abused by a priest as a child, and then he, too, abused House pages (how extensively is uncertain) before it ruined him. By the way, as his attorney affirmed on Tuesday, Mark Foley "is a gay man." Aside from the political tides generated by Foley's resignation, there are much larger cultural tsunamis swashing round. The Foley scandal intensifies the strain on relationships between youth and adults. It is particularly damaging for relations between old men and...

It's a basic political premise: Get in front of a potentially damaging story before it overwhelms you. That's certainly what Republican U.S. Senate candidate Mark Foley had in mind when the five-term congressman called an unusual press conference recently. Reports that he's gay are about to spread from alternative and gay media outlets to major Florida newspapers, Foley said. He blamed Democratic activists for spreading the rumor and decried the "repulsive" campaign tactic. He wanted reporters to know that he won't answer questions about his sexuality; it has nothing to do with his candidacy. Don't ask, won't tell. It's an...

I know Mark Foley. Mark Foley is a friend of mine. But in all my years working with him in Congress and on TV, I could have never foreseen this kind of scandal swirling around the friendly politician. Mark and I entered Congress together in 1994 and spent the next four terms working together on legislation and political campaigns. Rumors about Mark's homosexuality followed him from his first day in the House and I even discussed the issue with him before he launched his Senate campaign in 2003.

Gay community analyzes Foley resignation Originally posted on October 01, 2006 MIAMI — "He was a homophobe who needed to be exposed," said journalist Michael Rogers, whose Web site, www.blogactive.com/, reported on Florida Rep. Mark Foley for three years. "I first started to report on Foley in March 2003," said Rogers, who is gay. "The reason why — he's anti-gay. He voted for the Defense of Marriage Act and has not renounced that vote. He refused to acknowledge that he supported the repeal of 'don't ask, don't tell.' He would not sign on as a co-sponsor. He should be held...

In an age when colleges live and die by their rankings, a new focus for campus assessment is emerging: gay-friendliness. The Advocate, the national newsmagazine for gays and lesbians, published a 389-page book this month listing the 100 schools that it says offer the best discrimination protection, most friendly climate, and most extensive campus services for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered students. Sixteen of the schools are in New England, including six in Massachusetts. MIT, for one, made the top 100. The school is cited for having one of the nation's oldest gay and lesbian student groups and for early...

City Solicitor Romulo L. Diaz Jr. said a recent push to force the Cradle of Liberty Boy Scouts Council to denounce the national organization's antigay policy had nothing to do with his own homosexuality. "My own sexuality, my own sexual orientation, has never been hidden and never played into my decision," Diaz said in an interview yesterday with The Inquirer. "It has, perhaps, made me more sensitive to the issues." Diaz said he sent another letter yesterday morning seeking a meeting with William T. Dwyer III, council chief executive officer and president. Diaz, the city's first openly gay solicitor and...

Metro Board Member Dismissed for Disparaging Remarks Washington (AP) - Governor Ehrlich has dismissed Washington Suburban Transit Commissioner Robert Smith for making derogatory remarks about gays. Smith also served on Metro's board of directors. Smith appeared last weekend on a Montgomery County (website - news) cable program to discuss the Senate's rejection of a Constitutional amendment banning gay marriage and referred to homosexuality as deviant behavior. Ehrlich says Smith's comments were highly inappropriate, insensitive, and unacceptable. The Republican governor is seeking re-election this year. The announcement came hours after openly gay DC Councilman Jim Graham demanded an apology from Smith...

A believer spells out the difference between faith and a political agenda Are you a Christian who doesn't feel represented by the religious right? I know the feeling. When the discourse about faith is dominated by political fundamentalists and social conservatives, many others begin to feel as if their religion has been taken away from them. The number of Christians misrepresented by the Christian right is many. There are evangelical Protestants who believe strongly that Christianity should not get too close to the corrupting allure of government power. There are lay Catholics who, while personally devout, are socially liberal on...

May 1, 2006 Letters Gay Adoption A fair summary of the April 1 letter to the editor regarding gay adoption would be that foster children adopted by gay people are more vulnerable to sexual predators than children adopted by heterosexual parents. As attorneys, such a provocative and wholly unsupported statement should be troubling to us all. As a former police officer who now practices family law, I am keenly aware of and sensitive to the plight of abused children. The letter writer offers no evidence whatsoever of a nexus between the reaction of a child to the advances of a...
