New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo commuted the sentences of four people convicted of murder as one of his last acts as governor. The individuals all had second-degree murder convictions. "The march towards a more fair, more just, more equitable, and more empathetic New York State is a long one, but every step forward we can take it [sic] worthwhile and important," Cuomo said in a press release. "These clemencies make clear the power of redemption, encourage those who have made mistakes to engage in meaningful rehabilitation, and show New Yorkers that we can work toward a better future. I thank...

‘Tis the season for tearing down statues. And renaming schools and buildings and bridges. And removing the names of virtually all our important forebearers from the public square.  Does any of this make sense?  To help us think less emotionally and more clearly, let’s traverse the Atlantic and consider the case of Isaac Newton.       There is a statue of him at Oxford University. Should the British tear it down? According to Stephen Hawking, who held the Newton chair, the man who was perhaps the greatest scientist in the history of the world, was devious,...

GQ magazine was severely mocked for publishing an opinion piece that incorrectly said former Alabama segregationist governor George Wallace was a Republican. The op-ed, penned by Laura Bassett, described Wallace, a former presidential candidate, as a Republican who backed abortion so there would be fewer children for the government to support. Just one catch: Wallace was a Democrat.

Rep. Elijah Cummings, the powerful House Democrat who represented Baltimore for more than two decades and was a vocal critic of President Trump, died early Thursday after battling health problems, his office said in a statement. Cummings, who was 68, died at Gilchrist Hospice Care, a Johns Hopkins affiliate. As chairman of the House Oversight and Reform Committee, he was one of the most powerful Democrats in Washington, and played a key role in the House Democrats' ongoing efforts to impeach Trump.

Ever since President Donald Trump took to Twitter on Saturday to chide Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) about the state of Baltimore, which sits in the heart of his district, political pundits have debated just how bad the city truly is. CNN's Victor Blackwell got emotional when he heard Trump's comments about his hometown. A current Baltimore resident, however, confirmed one thing: the city really is rodent infested and Cummings has done nothing to help residents out over the last 20+ years he's been in office.Turning Point USA's Chief Content Creator, Benny Johnson, hit the streets of Baltimore to talk to residents about their...

A call to ban the Confederate Flag due to its association with slavery is akin to banning the Democrat Party's Donkey and Islam's Crescent, as both of those institutions were involved in the enslavement of Africans. The Democrat Party defended the right to own slaves, as the Party's founder, Andrew Jackson owned slaves. Beginning in colonial times, approximately 350,000 African slaves were brought to America, growing to number nearly 4 million slaves prior to the Civil War. Slaves were purchased at Muslim slave markets. Islam defended the right to own slaves, as its founder, Mohammed, owned slaves. Beginning in 622...

Says David Rutz, “I continue to not understand Flake’s closing argument in elected office of ‘I would normally be a spineless opportunist but now I’m not.'” It is strange. Flake made the same point during the Kavanaugh wars, when he was asked whether he would have paused the confirmation process for an FBI investigation if he had to face voters at the polls in November. “Not a chance,” said Flake. What he meant by that, I take it, is “There’s not a chance I could have done it and gotten reelected.” It’s a criticism of the ferocious partisanship that dominates...

Jeff Flake is finally taking a stand on the need to protect Robert Mueller — and it’s infuriating his fellow Republicans. The retiring Arizona senator is undermining the Senate GOP’s efforts to approve as many lifetime-appointed federal judges as possible in the lame duck. His vow to oppose all judges until he gets a vote shielding the special counsel from presidential interference has already frozen 21 judicial picks in committee and on Thursday helped derail a nominee on the Senate floor.

GOP path to retaking control likely goes through Trump-won districts now held by Democrats — Following the 2018 election, it appears as though Republicans will only hold three districts won by Hillary Clinton in 2016, while Democrats are on track to hold 31 districts won by Donald Trump in 2016. — As Republicans plot a House comeback in 2020, most of their obvious targets are in those Trump-won districts now represented by Democrats, many of whom just got elected. House 2020: A first look s of Wednesday afternoon, Democrats appeared likely to hold a 235-200 majority to start the next...

The Republican Party made clear on Tuesday that House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s comments on the violent MS-13 gang will haunt Democrats until the midterm elections. President Trump recently prompted an angry backlash by members of the media and his political opponents by referring to MS-13 members as “animals,” but the Republican Party is betting that American voters are on his side. Its new campaign ad titled “Democrats’ Midterm Message? MS-13 killers aren’t so bad” tallied over 52,000 views in less than six hours. “When the president of the United States says these aren’t people, these are animals, you have...

Offer shorter prison sentences in plea deals. Decline certain classes of criminal charges. And explain, on the record, why taxpayers should fork over thousands of dollars per year to incarcerate people. Those are some of the instructions that Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner has outlined for the office’s 300 prosecutors — perhaps the boldest set of policies yet of his busy two-month tenure, and in line with his campaign promise to reduce the number of people behind bars. --SNIP-- The cost of imprisoning a criminal — estimated by Krasner’s office to be at least $42,000 annually — is roughly equivalent...

Hot on the heels of his incendiary "extreme conservatives" comment, this Thursday New York Governor Andrew Cuomo took flight from the frigid, snow-covered confines of Albany for the warm embrace of sunny Southern California...... .....So this begs the question: Is Andrew Cuomo really that arrogant to think that he can get away with using taxpayer money to subsidize his sycophantic Hollywood friends who will then provide tens of thousand of dollars in kickbacks, I mean, contributions to his campaign coffers?

The media is a abuzed about this, and the lefty blogs are acting as though this being some nuance of the right. Wrong. Let’s not forget that Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Louis Farrakhan, both antisemitic and neither considered spokesmen for the right. But after some research it appears the shooter, James Von Brunn is in fact - despite the protestations of the Kos Kids - a registered democrat from Maryland. So much for the “Right Wing Conspiracy”. Fact is that most of the Holocaust Denier crowd is from the left. Many of the groups follow the writings of Naom Chomsky, the...

Critics of a Democratic Senate contender Harris Miller caricature in a flier from the campaign of party rival Jim Webb say the portrayal leaves an anti-Semitic impression. The flier put out by Jim Webb's campaign for U.S. Senate described his opponent as a corporate lobbyist who made money by sending American jobs overseas. But what caught Dan Smolen's attention was the cartoon that accompanied the text: That of a man with a hook nose and money spilling from his pockets. It was a caricature of Harris Miller, Webb's opponent in Tuesday's Democratic primary who happens to be Jewish. The image...
