As the search for Nancy Guthrie hit its 50th day Sunday, leaving the local sheriff desperate and humiliated, a legendary cold-case detective insisted to The Post that the case is still ripe with potential leads. “Nancy’s case is still very fresh,” said Brian Martin, the crack detective from Fort Payne, Ind., who helped catch the killer of 8-year-old April Tinsley almost 30 years after her murder. Republican congressional candidate Daniel Butierez told The Post on Tuesday that he had launched the recall campaign over Nanos’ handling of the Guthrie case as well as allegations he misrepresented his employment history. There is increasing disquiet over his conduct among rank-and-file Pima County police officers as well as Sheriff...

“Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has 'locked down' the Nancy Guthrie investigation amid escalating tensions between his team and the FBI that have reached the boiling point, the Daily Mail can reveal. Several sources say that Nanos is now insisting that only he and two of his highest-ranking inner circle will make decisions regarding the case of the missing 84-year-old. Several PCSD sources confirmed to the Daily Mail that just three decision makers are leading the department's investigation: Sheriff Nanos, Chief Jesus Lopez and Captain Juan Carlos Navarro.”

In the case of Novak, et al. v Federspiel, the Saginaw County Sheriff’s Office seized fourteen guns from a cabin where a domestic violence event occurred. The cabin’s owners waited until the domestic violence case was completed. Then the owners of the cabin, who are relatives of the person charged, asserted the guns belonged to them and asked the Sheriff to return them. The guns were first taken in 2017. The Sheriff refused to do so, saying, in part, the owners had not provided proof they owned the guns. Some of the guns were manufactured pre-1968 and were not made...
