As President Joe Biden tries to talk with Democratic lawmakers and relieve their concerns, a virtual meeting with members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus on Friday appears to have caused more problems than it solved. For starters, Biden showed up an hour late to the Zoom call, according to a source familiar with the meeting, and it didn’t get much better from there. Organizers of the Zoom meeting had said only two members were allowed to ask questions — Reps. Sylvia Garcia and Lou Correa — but Biden opened the floor up to more questions, the source familiar with the...

Joe Biden’s handlers are not only telling him what to say and how to say it, but also how to walk. A New York Times columnist wrote in a recent piece that President Joe Biden is so unpopular he could “easily” lose to former President Donald Trump in 2024. “Joe Biden is an unpopular president, and without some recovery, he could easily lose to Donald Trump in 2024,” Ross Douthat wrote in a September 9 piece. “[I]t’s been hard to distill a singular explanation for what’s kept his numbers lousy,” he added. In the piece, titled, “Why is Joe Biden So Unpopular?” he cited potential reasons — persistent inflation and a far-left activist core of the Democrat Party pushing socially conservative...

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) was embraced by young voters when he ran for president in 2016. And now it’s Rep. Maxine Waters (R-CA) — at 78, she is three years older than Sanders — who says she would run for president “if Millennials want me to.” Ahead of an appearance in New Hampshire, Waters, who has repeatedly called for the impeachment of President Donald Trump, was asked by the Daily Caller if she would consider running for president.

Tonight, Democratic presidential candidate and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told the women of New Hampshire to "have fun burning in hell" after it was clear she had lost the state's Democratic primary election to U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont. Clinton's remark referenced a statement made last weekend by former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Madeleine Albright that "there's a special place in hell for women that don't help each other." "Well, the women of New Hampshire can have fun burning in hell after supporting Bernie Sanders over me. Bernie Sanders is an old White Jewish guy,...

Most anybody in the mortgage business will tell you that August was a month that will live in infamy: The market was in turmoil, as doubts about the stability of subprime loans spread to other sectors of the mortgage world. How bad was it? A survey of mortgage brokers suggests that one in three consumers who recently signed purchase contracts canceled in August -- up from just 4 percent three years ago, according to the research firm that conducted the survey for Inside Mortgage Finance, a trade journal. The cancellation rate undoubtedly was fed by two scenarios playing out: Many...

SEATTLE -- Former President Jimmy Carter criticized the war in Iraq on Wednesday, urging a troop drawdown as the United States enters its fourth year of conflict in Iraq. "It was a completely unnecessary war. It was an unjust war," said Carter, the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize winner. "It was initiated on the basis of false pretenses. All of those are true, but we can't just pre-emptively withdraw."

I suppose there are lots of benefits to turning sixty-two, but from this side of the calendar, I am having a hard time seeing them. There are a few perks for "seniors," like discounts in some restaurants and sometimes on airline tickets or hotels. But most of the consequences of age are negative, and it's hard to accept them without a little cynicism if not outright anger. For one thing, the plant starts to break down around age 55, no matter what you do to keep it humming a precision tune. Here's a test: Sit on the floor. Now, get...

There is quite a lot to be thankful for this year. On the home front, everyone is as healthy as they were last year at this time and doing well. Governments in our metropolitan area are seeing shortfalls, as usual. But, we just consider who is running them. Overall, the economy looks good here. Unemployment, even here in the center of the so called rust belt, is way down now. Of course, we're thankful that the Republicans kept the executive and legislative branches in Washington. Not because we like them all and everything they do, understand. But, consider the socialist...
