Hundreds of students marched against hate on Tuesday on the campus of Sonoma State University [Rohnert Park, California], where two nooses were discovered. One was found in a classroom last week, another was found in a swimming pool area earlier this month. The day of action march comes at an especially sensitive time as the nation is still reeling from recent mass shootings motivated by racism and hatred. The march of nearly 100 students and staff also comes during final exams week and during graduation. Jason Hill, a student, said the discovery of the nooses was disturbing and did not...

Planned Parenthood has cancelled a Day of Action that was planned for January 26 because of the incoming blizzard. The largest provider of abortion in the country planned the Day of Action to kickoff the 2015 New York State Legislative Session. “As our state representatives start their work, we’ll be there to greet them and make sure they know that issues such as Family Planning Funding, Reproductive Health Care Access, and Paid Family Leave must be a priority in 2015,” Planned Parenthood of New York City Action wrote on their events page. In cancelling the event, the group posted this,...

Occupy San Francisco’s “Day of Action” turned violent Friday night when protesters occupied an abandoned hotel and began throwing objects at police officers from the roof, police said. “Once they gained access [to the hotel], some of them made it to the top of the roof and they then began to throw bibles down at the officers,” San Francisco Police Department spokesman Carlos Manfredi said. “One of officers was struck with a brick to the chest and one of our lieutenants was struck in the hand with an object and may have damaged or even broken his hand,” he said....

"Lower Manhattan Security Initiative (LMSI): The Lower Manhattan Security Initiative (LMSI) is a networked surveillance project designed to detect threats and perform pre-operational terrorist surveillance south of Canal Street in Lower Manhattan. LMSI combines an increased police presence with technology to accomplish its mission. At the heart of this initiative is the public-private partnership fostered amongst the NYPD, private entities, and public agencies in Lower Manhattan to create an information sharing environment and better defend against potential threats to the nation's financial capital. The Lower Manhattan Security Coordination Center (LMSCC), staffed 24/7 by NYPD officers, recently opened in November 2008...

The biggest problem with last week's March 4 Day of Action to Defend Education, which was organized to protests cuts in California's education spending: The event showed how little educators and students value education. After all, if teachers believed that class time is sacrosanct, they would have scheduled the protests for a Saturday, not a school day. Of course, on a Saturday, educrats in schools like Oceana High in Pacifica or San Francisco's Commodore Sloat Elementary could not have used other people's children as props for their politics. Fewer students would have shown up. So they gave up class time....

Apr 10, 2006 Description The plan for the April 10 Day of Action came from the grassroots. The National Capital Immigrant Coalition – a coalition of immigrant, labor, faith, civil rights and business community groups in the metro, Washington, DC area – and allies around the nation, developed the concept of a National Day of Action. Their good idea caught on like wildfire and today hundreds of local grassroots organizations and coalitions are working together in cities all over America to make our voices heard. Join hundreds of thousands of people in telling Congress that we need real, comprehensive immigration...
