Daryl Hall said that Eddie Van Halen once asked him about replacing David Lee Roth in Van Halen. "Yeah... actually yes," the Hall & Oates frontman said with a big laugh when asked about the rumor during an interview on Q104.3. "I knew those guys really well and we actually shared some people - crew and things like that. Eddie came to a show with [his then-wife] Valerie [Bertinelli], and David had just left the band. Eddie said, 'do you wanna join Van Halen, man?' He was half-joking, but I think he was serious, I really do believe he was...

Steve Vai, who joined David Lee Roth's post-VAN HALEN band more than 35 years ago as lead guitarist, spoke to "CMS Music" about the musical influence and impact of legendary VAN HALEN axeman Eddie Van Halen. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "I'm not unlike the average Edward fan in that he really had an effect. For Edward fans that really were touched by him, it's inexplicable, obviously; you can try to use words, but it doesn't really work. It's like that with many things. "I have a different position in that, yeah, one might say that I replaced the...

VAN HALEN singer David Lee Roth will retire after the last concert of his Las Vegas residency in January. "I'm throwing in the shoes," Roth told the Las Vegas Review-Journal on Friday (August 1). "I'm retiring. This is the first, and only, official announcement. … You've got the news. Share it with the world." He added: "I'm not going to explain the statement. The explanation is in a safe. These are my last five shows." Roth also reflected on the passing of his longtime bandmate, legendary VAN HALEN guitarist Eddie Van Halen, who died of cancer a year ago. "I...

Nikki Sixx says that MÖTLEY CRÜE originally invited VAN HALEN's David Lee Roth to share the bill with them and DEF LEPPARD on "The Stadium Tour" but that David passed. "I don't open for bands that I influenced," the CRÜE bassist says Roth told him, according to the Los Angeles Times. Back in October 2019, Roth reflected on the influence of VAN HALEN on bands that followed, telling KKLZ's "The Mike & Carla Morning Show": "Hair bands were the imitations of VAN HALEN. Yeah, it is true, and spandex was what they came up with as something visual. I started...

David Lee Roth has changed his name. The former Van Halen front man now wants to be called “David L. Roth” or “El Roth.” The change was inspired by the current movement in the music industry to disown words having to do with the slavery that existed in the South — which comes in response to the Black Lives Matter protests that rose up after the death of George Floyd

David Lee Roth says that VAN HALEN is "finished." The singer made the comment while speaking to Meltdown of the Detroit radio station WRIF about his upcoming Las Vegas residency, which is due to kick off in January. Asked if he was "bummed out" that he couldn't tour with VAN HALEN this past summer, as had been rumored several months ago, Roth responded: "That's been canceled a number of times, and I think VAN HALEN's finished and this is the next phase. I've inherited the band de facto — whatever that means. I think it means if you inherit it,...

Well, that didn't take long. Rocker-turned-radio host David Lee Roth, who accepted the no-win task of replacing ratings king Howard Stern in January, was bounced from the airwaves Friday after barely three months on the air in New York, Philadelphia, Boston and four other markets. "I was booted, tossed, and it's going to cost somebody," Roth said on his last show, intimating that his lawyers would go after CBS Radio for the full compensation due from his reported $4 million contract. The timing of the move was interesting: It arrived just days before the Roth show's first Arbitron numbers. CBS...

They're coming back by popular demand. Ok, make that corporate radio's desperate attempt to save its failing radio content and its stations' revenue after departure of the King. The one-time Boston radio bad boys Greg "Opie" Hughes and Anthony Cumia will return to Boston's WBCN 104.1FM airwaves as early as next Wednesday(4/26) morning. Meanwhile, after three long months former Van Halen lead man David Lee Roth is finally scheduled to wrap up his so-called 15-minute radio career tomorrow (Friday 4/21). This afternoon, Billboard Magazine has provided details on Opie and Anthony's return to broadcast radio and a reunion with their...

DLR DeathWatch '06 Back On? We've all been hearing rumors of David Lee Roth's radio demise for a while, but now (Radio And Records Street Talk) is hearing it's a matter of when -- not if -- CBS Radio, frustrated with Dave's inability and/or unwillingness to play nice with management, will finally be forced to pull the plug. There is strong speculation that we could we see heads roll sooner rather than later -- perhaps after the winter (ratings) book hits next Wednesday? Then again, we could be massively full of crap, but somehow we seriously doubt it this time....

Our market lost the broadcast from WFNY (KROCK) during the post Stern transition. How was DLR's program this week? What are his leanings on the day-to-day news issues? If it matters, we've inherited Grover's Morning Glory and it's horrible ...... Is DLR a practicing Jew and/or does he discuss the middle east?

Thanks to a help-wanted ad placed today, we're getting a slightly better sense of how "Washington Post Radio" will sound once on the air. Sure enough, they do realize they'll need qualified broadcasters to get through each day. What in the world, however, are they going to talk about? Will it simply come down to rehashing the headlines every ten minutes? And since they've indicated it's an attempt to steal away liberal NPR listeners, how will this format accomplish that goal? ................snip...........................

November 16, 2004 -- Legendary Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth has stopped "runnin' with the devil" to do God's work - riding ambulances in gritty neighborhoods throughout the city to become a paramedic. The famed rocker has cut his trademark blond mane and dropped his celebrity persona so he can ride unrecognized with ambulance crews in The Bronx, Manhattan and Brooklyn several nights a week.

"Loveline" host Adam Carolla will take the morning slot in L.A., while ex-rocker David Lee Roth will take New York.Howard Stern, who is literally counting the days before he leaves terrestrial radio for satellite, pumped up the volume on widely circulating replacement rumors by revealing on the air Monday that comedian Adam Carolla and ex-rocker David Lee Roth will take over his popular morning time slot, at least in the Los Angeles and New York markets respectively. If true, the personnel moves by Infinity Broadcasting — whose contract with Stern expires at the end of the year — suggest that...
