David Lee Roth says that VAN HALEN is "finished."
The singer made the comment while speaking to Meltdown of the Detroit radio station WRIF about his upcoming Las Vegas residency, which is due to kick off in January.
Asked if he was "bummed out" that he couldn't tour with VAN HALEN this past summer, as had been rumored several months ago, Roth responded: "That's been canceled a number of times, and I think VAN HALEN's finished and this is the next phase. I've inherited the band de facto whatever that means. I think it means if you inherit it, carry this proudly. VAN HALEN isn't gonna be coming back in the fashion that you know. And that being said, Eddie's [Van Halen] got his own story to tell. [It's] not mine to tell it."
Roth's latest comments echo those he made earlier in the month when he told the Phoenix radio station KSLX that he was "the face of VAN HALEN from this point on, most likely. I'm not sure what's happening with Ed, but he's probably not gonna answer the bell this time," he said. "And it's not my place to guess."
Asked if he was implying that Eddie Van Halen had been dealing with some health issues as of late, Roth replied: "I hear all the same rumors that you do and it's not my place to guess."

I’m probably the minority, but I really preferred Van Halen with Sammy Hagar.
Both Roth and Hagar were good. At the time when Roth left, the thought was the band would suffer. Then came Sammy.
Yuck! Glad they are through. I guess it is a matter of taste but I just never cared for them. Valerie Bertinelli could have had me but she went for that idiot..
>>Both Roth and Hagar were good.<<
Not really. Roth was a showman but a terrible vocalist. Hagar could actually sing, and sing well.
Roth has hated Van Halen after the brothers kicked him out — mostly for bring a d*ck.
They are all ready for social security anyway.
Funny, Eddie Van Halen and Les Paul were great friends. Even though Eddie played Strats.
He said that he would get phone calls like at 3:00 in the morning and it was his buddy Les Paul... “Hey Eddie... y’know... I was thinkin...”

I liked Van Hagar, too.
Never been a fan of Van Halen. His music or his style of playing guitar. Music is of course a matter of taste.
If he kept smoking and drinking after the oral cancer episode well........that ain’t good. Hope that’s not the case.
Heavy drinker and smoker gets tongue cancer and thinks it’s from guitar picks? Quite a rationalization.
What’s finished is David Lee Roth’s voice. I saw them a few years ago. The band’s music and background vocals were stellar. David Lee Roth acted like he was drunk and was embarrassing. Sad. He was good back in the day. But no mo.
I also preferred Eddie’s tone in the early days. Cranked marshall beats Peavey endorsement.
I liked Sammy when he was with Montrose.
I liked both versions. Van Halen (with Roth) was perfect for the time and their age. Aggressive, attitude, and fun. Sammy was a great replacement. I enjoyed his voice better and it helped them expand their music.
Ha! I remember about 15 years ago on Bob and Tom’s radio show. They said that David Lee Roth and George Thorogood were two of the biggest jerks that they had ever interviewed.
Also, Michael Anthony was always overlooked by some fans. His background vocals were a huge part of VH.
I could have gone to their 1984 concert in Albuquerque but I was to much of a nerd and I blew it. People (kids) were talking about that concert for a month afterwards....and the chicks just seemed primed by just seeing DLR.
They won’t be playing Spicoli’s 60th birthday party for him and Brooke.
Silly me. I thought VanHalen was dead by 1990.
Seem both in carnations. For showmanship it was Roth. For a band it was Sammy. A few years back, both Hagat and Roth toured together. Hagar was great. When Roth came on, it was the gayest dam thin I ever saw, and left.
As far as Sammy, he is making more money off his Tequila then he ever has with Van Halen.
This lives forever:
