The mayor of Cincinnati has declared his municipality to be a sanctuary city, which will now protect illegal aliens from federal immigration officers. Mayor John Cranley announced, alongside Muslim, Jewish and Christian religious leaders, that his city would “stand in solidarity with the immigrant community,” and declare itself a sanctuary city, despite the threat of losing federal funding under President Donald Trump’s administration. “This city stands with immigrants,” Cranley said during the live press conference. “This city stands with Muslims. Two days after being sworn-in to a new term, on Cincinnati council member has his sights set on a bigger office. The Enquirer reports Democrat John Cranley says he wants to run against Republican Congressman Steve Chabot next year. This wouldn't be Cranley's first time taking a shot at Congress. He ran against Chabot in 2000, winning 45% of the vote. The Enquirer says Cranley filed papers with the Federal Election Commission creating a congressional campaign committee.
