I was in Las Vegas over the weekend, and I joked with my friend Jim Hoft, St. Louis’ Gateway Pundit, calling him a “Cracka” during an interview. Jim gave a surprised laugh, evident my comment gave him no discomfort. Nevertheless, the blatant use of the term Cracker these days got me to thinking about Crackers in general. So I decided to perform a quick investigation. In my investigation, I was surprised at all I had not known about Crackers.

NRA: Make-up artists to the painted mask of tyranny. In the middle of the night, I reget that I rightfully jumped all over an old friend. "Outside the limit of our sight, feeding off us, perched on top of us, from birth to death, are our owners! Our owners! They have us. They control us! They are our masters! Wake up! They're all about you! All around you!" -- Street Preacher in They Live, 1988. Folks, It is almost two in the morning and the dogs are barking outside but that is not why I am awake. I ran into...

Ace Washington Times reporter Kerry Picket has the scoop on a Democratic Party official whose MySpace page is a sewer of racial hatred.Following up on fellow Times reporter Jerry Seper's report on the Obama Justice Department's dropping of a case of voter intimidation by Democratic party poll watcher and New Black Panther member Jerry Jackson, Picket reports on the vile racist language that gets Republicans run out of town on a rail, but gets Democrats elected to be party officials. In Jackson's case, that means being an elected member of the 14th Ward Democratic party committee in Philadelphia. Here's a sample...

Internet troublemakers, known as griefers, conducted an organized hack attack against an epilepsy support message board last weekend. The attack, designed to inflict bodily injury, is the first known example of a large scale hack designed to inflict physical damage on the victims. The attackers used injected JavaScript to trigger flashing images on the computers of their victims, causing them severe migraines and seizures. The site is run and maintained by a nonprofit organization, the Epilepsy Foundation. Its goal is to provide a place where epileptics and family members can provide each other with support. The group had to close...

Any response to this paper's Friday editorial on my foreign policy position must rest on two fundamental assertions: first, that the Founding Fathers were not isolationists; and second, that their political philosophy -- the wisdom of the Constitution, the Declaration, and our Revolution itself -- is not just a primitive cultural relic. If I understand the editors' concerns, I have not been accused of deviating from the Founders' logic; if anything I have been accused of adhering to it too strictly. The question, therefore, before readers -- and soon voters -- is the same question I have asked for almost...

"There is an investigation conducted by the California Highway Patrol on how the tape obtained by the L.A. Times was acquired," said a senior official who spoke on condition of anonymity. "This is a criminal matter that has been turned over to the CHP." The governor was criticized last week after the Times reported...

Senate President Pro Tem Don Perata Thursday discussed the difficult political climate surrounding illegal immigration and as an example said “You've got all these crackers ... down in San Diego.” At a briefing with reporters, the Oakland Democrat was asked about the prospects of pending legislation to grant driver's licenses to illegal immigrants. Though a similar bill has passed the Legislature before – only to be vetoed – Perata said he was cautious about moving the current bill to the governor's desk in an election year. “Immigration is a red meat issue,” he said. “You've got all these crackers down...

Senate President Pro Tem Don Perata was more than blunt in a press conference Thursday to talk about lawmaker's end of session three-week sprint that starts on Monday -- at one point refering to "crackers" in San Diego. On the controversial issue of granting driver's licenses to illegal immigrants, Perata may have created some of his own controversy with his comments Thursday. When asked if he would move the bill to the governor's desk, Perata said he hadn't thought about it but would keep in mind that it is a hot-button issue in an election year. "Immigration is a red...

While enjoying the Christmas season in the comfort of your home, take a minute to say a prayer for the wrongfully convicted. American prisons are full of wrongfully convicted persons. Many were coerced into admitting to crimes they did not commit by prosecutors’ threats to pile on more charges. Others were convicted by false testimony from criminals bribed by prosecutors, who exchanged dropped charges or reduced sentences for false testimony against defendants. Not all the wrongfully convicted are poor. Some are wealthy and prominent people targeted by corrupt prosecutors seeking a celebrity case in order to boost their careers. Until...

Free trade has necessary conditions. Today these conditions are not met. This point has escaped Joe Salerno and George Reisman (both writing on Mises.org), as it has a vast number of other people. The case for free trade is based on David Ricardo’s principle of comparative advantage. Ricardo addressed the question how trade could take place between country A and country B (England and Portugal in his example) if country B was more efficient in the production of tradable goods (cloth and wine in his example) than A. In other words, if Portugal could produce both cloth and wine at lower cost than...

Is there a person anywhere in the world who still thinks there is an ounce of sanity in the Bush administration? Howard Dean and Yankee Democrats don't have a clue what it means to be a Southerner. It's not about Confederate flags. It's about honor, family, self reliance and American patriotism. Who are these Confederate voters that Vermonter Howard Dean wants to represent? Is Jefferson Davis on the ballot again? I thought he was dead, along with the Confederate States of America. Hey, I’m a Southerner, why didn’t I get the memo? Duh, Dean was just being "hisself", a Yankee liberal, describing voters as he sees people – divided by race, class and gender. What a hoot. Liberals imagine identity politics...
