It is a remarkable thing that the U.K. and Irish parliaments were able to hypnotize themselves and pass climate emergency legislation when the southern half of the planet has not warmed at all in 120 years. For example, this record of Cape Leeuwin (courtesy of Erl Happ), on the southwest corner of the Australian landmass, shows recent January mean maximum temperature back below the 120 average: The U.K. and Irish parliaments were able to work themselves up into a lather over climate even though parts of the northern hemisphere set new cold records this last winter. A spike in food...

The biggest freakin box of cornflakes you ever saw in your life!!! Winco foods has opened a store nearby, so I went in to check it out. Very good prices. They have posted for various items the comparable prices at other local supermarket chains and distributors, and Winco beats them hands down, I would say by 20% or so. The selection is HUGE, and they have many items that come in bulk (I bought a can of pork and beans SEVEN POUNDS, a #10 can, for 5.98). I was thinkin when I entered that they might not have much veggie-wise...
  • Kellogg's will use laser to burn logo onto individual corn flakes to stamp out fakes

Kellogg's has developed a hi-tech method to stamp out imitation cereals - by branding individual flakes of corn with the company logo.   The new technology enables the firm - which makes 67million boxes of Corn Flakes every year - to burn the famous signature onto individual flakes using lasers.  Kellogg's plans to produce a number one-off trial batches of the branded flakes to test the system. Bosses will then consider inserting a proportion of branded flakes into each box to guarantee the cereal's origins and protect against imitation products.  If the system is successful it could be used...

USDA to report acreage; analysts warn of $10 corn and possible supply crisisSAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Recent Midwest flooding may have damaged millions of acres of corn crops, analysts expect the U.S. Department of Agriculture to say in its crop acreage report slated for release Monday. The loss of acreage could slash U.S. corn production and push the 2009 season's year-end stocks to the lowest level since just after World War II, analysts said. And the real damage is likely to be even worse than what Monday's 8:30 a.m. EDT report will show, as it's still too early to evaluate...

Supermarkets and groceries in Saudi Arabia are openly selling Kelloggs products, including cornflakes, which were removed from shop shelves in the UAE last week after it was discovered that the products of this American company contain pork gelatin. The supermarkets surveyed by Arab News said that they have no instructions from officials and have no knowledge about the controversy surrounding Kelloggs products. Although a full-fledged campaign has been launched by a group of individuals in cooperation with the Islamic News and Information (ININ) network on the Internet to ban the Kelloggs products immediately, there was no immediate reaction from the...
